I am trying to get my hands on this red carpet this week.. might even try to get a blue one as well.. Some of the most intense colors I seen.

Would be a little wary of the mouths of the blue one and green one.

These are the red one and blue one that I USED to have.

+1. Not a good sign when the mouth is exposed like that.

For some reason, the blue one looks like a gigantea (based on the folds and pattern of the tentacles) that's not happy. Have you been able to ID the nems?

I'm guessing it may make a difference if you choose to purchase them or not.

Red and Green are definitely Haddoni, and blue does appear to be Gigantea.

The blue does look like a giga and I would assume that the gaping mouths are stress related from shipping... If I do decided to pick some up I will have them hold them in their tank for awhile before I get them.

I called the place that has these carpets and expressed my concern about the blues being Giga and not Haddoni and was expressly told that they are all Haddoni and not giga. I am having them hold a blue and a green for me for until next week so we shall see when they come in. I will definitely post pics when I get them.

Then they don't know what they're talking about. Before ordering, definitely requests pictures of all sides of the anemone.

The green is satured...

This is a nice virtual anemone lol

Though normally I am on the lookout for doctored photos, I have to say those colors look true to life to me. I have personally seen two different types of "green" haddonis - a normal green and a bright fluorescent green. I have seen the bright green in enough different stores over the years to believe that it is a natural color morph. I have been seeing them for at least 20 years.

Hard to find photos of giganteas with the mouth visible where it is also unmistakably a gigantea. Here's one that you might like:

Nicely done, thanks! And I like the accent anemone on the bottom left too. :)

I have a friend who runs a reef website locally, and she has ordered from this wholesaler before. She showed me these pics on his site yesterday. She told me that she can usually rely on accurate photos from his site. Key word being "USUALLY" though. And she won't stock carpets for nothing, so this is based on her experience with corals only.

Interesting. I've seen that exact picture before (the one of the green and blue anemones in one pic).

Also, my anemone shows its mouth like that from time to time (usually after my saddlebacks try to hide in there). Hopefully that's not a bad sign. :(

I'll have to say that in my experience most LFS don't know the difference between haddoni and gigantea, especially when they first arrive and the tentacle of both species look similar. Even on the wholesale list, many just have "Stichodactyla spp" so the LFS doesn't know what they're getting until they come in. Furthermore, most don't expect to see gigantea and always assume what comes in is a haddoni. Many folks who knowingly purchase gigantea are happy to see them mislabeled as haddoni.

All that said, I'm 99% sure that the blue nem pictured to the left of the bright green one is a gigantea. The pattern of the tentacles on the oral disk is indicative of a stressed gig. You can see the difference in the photo of the healthy gig in the wild.

HOWEVER... if you look at that same photo again, you can see in the upper right corner, just the very edge of a blue nem. That looks like a blue haddoni -- it appears to be laying flatter and the tentacle pattern is uniform. Could that be the one your LFS is referring to?
