I prefer walking into a store myself. I actually frequent not only the 4 in Rochester, but 6 other stores in the Buffalo areas.
However, some things occasionally have to be ordered online or over the phone. (Bulk needs for best pricing, or things that we don't find our local shops carrying, like unusual livestock etc..)
If you had a good experience with this business, then good for you. If they are in business to succeed, then possibly they are trying their best to provide a customer oriented service.
If the same guy that took your order made the personal trip for delivery and took extra time with you... that sounds like an experience of "Personal Service" to me! Not a bad thing.
I do conqer with Gary about Randy from ARC. He is an excellent guy. He's helped me with quite a few things I wanted to try. Never steered me wrong.
Plus I love going to check out the wrasses and Morrish Idol in his main DT.
But that does not mean "Select" people or places are where you should always go for everything.
Many Opinions are good when they are directed toward helping others.
They are often based on true past experiences. But it does not always make it the only solution to something. Someone with an opinion based on their previous success usually is a good thing. However, it's not always the only way to do it.
There are multiple methods for things. Example: certain successful "experts" in the field of science even disagree on things. Yet all of them have been successful in the field with what they do to certain extents...
I'd check out a ARC if I were you. However, that doesn't mean your experience with "finger lakes" is bad either.
IMHO:
Sometimes people with knowledge & wisdom can become negatively tainted against opinions that are not their own or of those who they have relied upon. Many of us have opinions here and many of us learn from others on here.
However, some people loose sight sometimes of the fact that after all their years of knowledge and learning(which is a good thing), they forget that their methods and opinions (however good in most cases) don't make them the "only way to do something" or "the method that works"...
We should try to remember to maintain a certain amount of "humbleness" with our knowledge and opinions.
It's like the Master Jedi that however wise he was, still became "corrupted" that his way was the best and only way... He started thinking like a Sith in that everyone should listen to him in every case.
I find most of our local shops to be very knowledgable in many different ways. Each of them have good things to offer. It doesn't always make one over the other. Some "specialize" in things I'd trust them for.. But still yet others I'd go to for another reason. It's all good...
"Personal Service" is what I like about the old fashioned specialized Shop.
As opposed to the internet.
It would be so nice if some people would not get so "bent" on here when we don't agree with each other. There is a point where you just be polite then, say good luck and keep the rest to yourself. But this is the real world we all live in I guess and some people think they are elite. That will probably never change.
(Quote: I'm sorry. Randy at ARC is world class. I'm not kidding. In Cheektowaga, NY that's who you should be dealing with. Time will prove me right.

) Randy is awesome I agree.
However, NO one is always right. :thumbdown :sad1:
So good luck
aww_420, take advice or don't. Learn on your own. It's all good.
Just have fun and keep reefing!
(why can't we all just get along..? LOL!

Excuse me, I've got to read my beautiful daughter a bed time story now.
