B. Cardinal Holding Babies!!

I just went through this with my Pair....

Unfortunately I found the babies in my sump sock.....

When I had the blue eyed cardinals they also mated the same way
Gonna watch to see what you guys come up with.....

Well I don't run any filter socks, but my overflow pipe dumps right next to my skimmer intake. I may have to reconfigure the setup. I'm going to attempt to move the male at about 15-18 days to my display fuge and see if he will release there. Hopefully I can separate him from the babies so he doesn't gobble them up.

Does anyone know how to tell the males from females?

supposedly, the males have longer dorsal fins than the females, but they get nipped often, so it can be tough. Males tend to have a rounder jaw as well.

And Chris. they are def big enough to take pods.

My male does have a larger dorsal fin, but not by much, very hard to tell. I was told that the best way to confirm is to feed them heavily so that their stomachs are really full. Then on the underside of their belly they will either have one or two little points sticking out. One for male and 2 for female. Tough to do as they don't always eat enough.

Another way to do it is two buy 3 and two will eventually pair up, the odd one out should be removed as they will eventually kill it off.

Or your jawfish will adopt him, and the little guy will live in the hole with the jawfish. Like mine did oddly. And even after I took out the pair, they still live together

That is very cool Collin. I have a pair that gets along well but as far as I can tell they look the same. I'll look closer. Nice to see you today

We have 3 bangai cardinals and 1 PJ cardinal in our 125g tank.

The loner bangai hangs out on the opposite side of the tank as the two that paired up.. and the PJ usually floats near the mocha clowns for protection from the pair. I think if the tank is big enough, they can live without being :uzi: killed. jmo

So I just ordered some Baby Brine Shrimp eggs from Brine Shrimp Direct, along with the sieve for straining them in preperation I might be able to get these babies to live.

Now I know alot of people just use inverted 2L bottles, but I was looking at creating something a little more aesthetically pleasing.

Does anyone have any ideas?
