bad advice

is it just me or is marine depot giving out bad advice on how to get a clownfish to enter an anemone?

from the marine depot blog:
"What do you do if you have the right clownfish and anemone but your clown STILL won't use the anemone as a host? This is where things get tricky.

We know clownfishes use anemones for protection. So if the environment you've created for them feels safe, they may not have any desire for protection. Perhaps the clownfish has been living in your aquarium for years without an anemone and already has a home territory. Maybe you have an anemone perched elsewhere in your tank your clown shows no interest in. Whatever the case may be, your goal is for them to form a symbiotic relationship. However, it may require some persuasion in order for them to form a bond.

The best way I have found to accomplish this is to make the clownfish in your aquarium feel less safe. You can achieve this by adding more fish (preferably larger fish if your tank can accommodate them) or rearranging the aquarium rock in your aquascape. Your newly evicted clownfish is then forced to find a new home."

maybe it's just me but you should never need to add meaner fish to your tank just to scare a clown.

sorry just venting I guess

Well that might be one way to feed the anemone too. The aggressive fish chases the clown near an anemone and gets hung up in it, instead of the clown.

LOL

I do not understand the full context of the question that was posed to them and the reason they gave their answer the way they did.

It is possible that a non-fish person edited the answer/question down and that is why it seems weird.

Those editing it should try to get outsiders to read over it to make sure they do not cut it down, or assume something just because they were talking about it.

It is best to assume you are explaining it to a 7 year old, sometimes. That way you know that you have to put in all the details.

well their other way was to tape a picture of other anemones hosting clowns to the side of the tank, this one is fine. weather it actually works or not, I have no clue.

I just don't like the idea of diffrent ways of forceing a clown into an anemone, put more stress on the clown than what is needed.

but I agree, it is a good way to feed the anemone lol

here is the full article if your intrested though

You can achieve this by adding more fish

srsly?? so they tell you add more fish, your clown decides hey imma gonna go live in this anemone and then you are stuck with one or more fish from hell that you have to catch and either take them to the lfs or set up another tank???

that makes about as much sense as trying to nail jell-o to a tree.

now that I think of it, on the tapeing of the picture of other clowns in an anemone. I wonder if this just isn't another way of scareing the clowns rather than showing clowns what to do the pic actually makes your clowns think there are other clowns in the tank. but then again I don't know what a clown thinks inside his brain :D

and you really can't nail jello to a tree? so much for my fun for the summer lol

Just take a video of other clowns, put it on the laptop or tablet and place it near the screen for the clown to see. Put it on repeat and let it go.

Anemones

Anemones

It is true that clownfish seek out anemones for shelter and sometimes adding a larger fish such as a tang will work. but if you have large clarki clowns the tang will be in trouble.

The picture idea sounds wack and it is, all it is doing it scaring your fish.

I read the article as well. It's not as bad as it could be, but that's not saying much. I wish it was once sentence...

"Just be patient, it may happen or it may not, but don't do anything to force the clowns into the anemone."

I think it just suggestions on things to try out. As some tips will work and for others it won't.

That sentence has my vote as well.
