Banded Shrimp ate my LT Anemone's "foot'.

Hy guys,

Recently I bought a Green/Yellow/Blue LT, it was recovering very well, but as not attached to any rock and was floating in my tank.

This morning it was on the sand, with the foot exposed, was looking very nice, when I arrived at night, it was looking terrible, and I saw my banded shrimp picking the foot, so i got the anem and put in a plastic case in my tank, but the foot is destroyed, looking very very bad, the shrimp ate a big piece, the anemone is still alive, but lost some part of the base.

Did you see something similar? What are the chances to recovery?

Thanks guys.

Never trust anything that wares its skeleton on the outside.

I would be very shocked if the anemone survived. It was probably wounded before the shrimp attacked though. LTA's with a damaged foot are usually doomed. Sorry. Maybe you can be the one case in a gazillion that pulls the anemone through????????

I had an LTA's foot get chopped to pieces in a powerhead and it's recovered just fine. I would guess for a shrimp to go after it the nem was probably on the way out though...

Have a picture of it? Because this would be the first time I have ever heard of an LTA (( M. doreensis )) recover from a foot damage.

More than once I have seen an BTA (( E. Quadricolor )) confused as an LTA.

Ask and you shall receive. The second pic is pretty crappy, but the point is that you can see the dots...

I did not have the same lucky, I just removed the anem this morning.

So I always put my BTAs on the rocks, and they attach in the same time, where is the best place to put the LT, rocks or sand?

Fishamatank --- that is great. Glad that it recovered, and that is pretty rare, good job.

mchiareli --- LTAs (( M. doreensis )) are sand dwelling anemones.

Yeah, I did not anticipate it surviving. It was assaulted pretty badly by a K4. I actually had it in a bucket with a PH for a few days because I did not want it fouling the water too badly. It was apparent that it was still alive on day 2 in the bucket so I put it back in the tank in a very low flow area and eventually the wounds started closing up. The nem was basically tore in half, the mouth was even damaged too.

Impressive.

This is what I came home to 3 years ago,

2 months later -- but its foot was never damaged

Looks pretty familiar, I woke up to go to work and walked past the tank on the way to the door. Saw a pretty disconcerting sight....

Since OP stated his LTA did not attach, I wonder if the foot was damaged on collection, and the shrimp had easy prey going after wounded foot.
Like earlier stated, LTA pretty much always die from a torn foot.
I think it's possible fishamatanks may have been chewed up, but not the critical areas of the foot, hard to say.
I've never heard of one coming back after a foot tear either.

I would not doom your anemone quite yet, my LTA had been through a lot before I rescued it (including foot damage) and it has recovered great. When i got it it was only maybe 4 inches in diameter now its close 14 in just 8 months. Stay strong
