Barely made the club but time for my 180 upgrade (Warning: Progress may be slow)

I have a 180g too :P. I have no idea, I got it from the store and it was listed as a yellow patch wrasse. It is a gorgeous fish, I'll try to snap a video tomorrow for you, maybe you can help id it.

I think mid/end of march I'm going to add my anthias. I kind of added a bunch of fish all at once so I want to make sure I take it a bit slower. I'm saving a naso and powder blue tang for last.

btw I'm running an ATB 840 and that thing pulls out some gunk!

Brando457 - how many Anthias do you plan on adding? I looked at a couple at my LFS last week. He had a trio of some Lyretail and the price was pretty good. I am just worried about how much they feed. I looked at a couple of automatic feeders and may have to introduce one of those into the mix.

If you get a chance can you send me a picture of the amount of gunk you get in one day. I think mine is doing fine but I can never get wet skim unless something is wrong in the tank. It is always thick sludge. How many fish do you have in total now?

That fish is very pretty :).

Steve - that looks spot on.

Steve that might be right, post more on NJRC for your tank I saw you had to do your rocks over :(.

I am going to do 5 anthias, I plan on having an eheim automatic feeder dispensing food 3x a day of a mix of pellets/flakes.

I will clean out the skimmer tonight and give it 24 hrs to show you how much gunk it pulls in 24 hr span. I just set my last night to skim even dryer, but oyy I think I may need to throw carbon on top of it, it is stinky!

I just cleaned the cup, ugh nasty. I took a picture of it completely clean, I will snap another photo tomorrow evening this time and we'll see how well it does in 24 hrs :)

Awesome pictures Henry. Those frags look great :D

Francis - Thanks man without you and your constant supply of great corals I could not post pictures like this :lol2:. I have put plans in place to make room for more of your frags :).

General Updates - Orange Back Wrasse Dead
I guess I can say he is dead at this point as I have not seen him since the second day of release. I think my Long Fin killed him sometime that night since I did not see him the next day. I am really bummed since he was an amazing looking fish. I am not sure about my next wrasse purchase at this point or any fish for that matter. I have been doing some research on my next fish but not sure how it will work.

General Updates - Colony Reduction
I brought some new rock a while back and recently got some new frags so I need space in the tank. I soon plan on getting rid of my largest colonies to make room for new frags. So far I have identified the Neon Birdsnest and the Green Pocillopora. I can then add the 6lbs of rock I brought a while back and have loads of places for new frags :).

General Updates - New Critters
I needed some new clean up critters so I recently added 100 Nassarius Snails, 20 Blue Leg Hermit Crabs, 50 Dwarf Cerith Snails, 10 Dwarf Planaxis Snails (very small), 4 Emerald/Ruby Mithrax Crabs, and 1 Fuzzy Chiton.

General Updates - Frag Tank
I got around to testing the par readings in my frag tank the other day and have to conclude that 3 T5s and two VHO's are not going to cut it. I will start looking at other options for lighting the tank. The readings are currently around 110 - 130 in places very far from what I wanted but things are growing so I guess that is good.

Henry...so sorry to hear about the wrasse! That's one of my favorites too and I've been waiting for one to become available. That FTS looks awesome and I'm glad the par meter is working out for you.

Steve - Thanks Steve. I am now trigger shy about buying any new fish. Thanks for letting me buy the meter from you :). I will be doing some testing soon and I am looking into (dare I say) some LEDs for the frag tank...LOL.

General Updates - VHO Light Update
Frustration finally set in and I called Aquarium Specialty and cancelled the remaining part of my order. I placed the order on November 21st and it is now Feb 13th and no sign of my two remaining bulbs. I have a lot of points to use but after I use my points with them I will never order from them again :). The whole ordeal is pretty laughable at this point.

Amazing pictures Henry. Can you shed some insight on your maintenance schedule?

How often do you do water changes? What things to do you test weekly, monthly? What buffers are you using?

Jon - Currently I try to shot for a 20 gallon water change every week. I dose two part daily and lately I have been trying to get my Alk levels increase which has been an issue for me for a while now. I am hoping I can fix that issue and get even better growth and colors. I was using BRS 2 part but I have switched back to Two Little Fishes. BRS I think is good just not concentrated enough. I may soon experiment with mixing it at 1 - 1/2 strength and see if I can keep the same levels.

I only test for things when my corals do not look right to me. I try to look back at pictures and see what color things were when I purchased them and how much of an improvement the coral has had as far as growth and color. Some issues I do not have to test for...currently I know I have a phosphate issue due to the increase in nuisance algae. This is also partly due to my VHO's being in extreme need of being replaced as well. Hope that helps.
