Be careful what you wish for

I always wanted a blue S. gigantea and finally obtained a nice one about 2 years ago. It was then only 2-3" and it has now grown to about 18" in diameter. I am getting a little worried about it growing more in this aquarium.

I have not even fed it directly for the last year. It feeds only on flakes after I feed the fish. How big and fast are these anemones growing in your tanks?

Very cool! It looks awesome.

I had one that grew to about 20" (essentially doubling in size) in about 2 years. I sold it to a person with a 360 gallon tank.

I now have a purple gig that started about 6" and is now about 12" and it's been about 10 months. I've been feeding this one, but not much -- just mysis and whatever the fish eat. My understanding is that they'll top out at about 24".

you can always send it to me if you think its too big? :)

nice nem, i will need to feed my nems flakes from now on. :)

Wow, and that is right here in SD?
Clearly the nem is fine, it's those pesky sps crowding it you should be concerned with, I would advise culling that stuff back, and I know where it can be safely placed!
Beautiful tank!

Concur -- that's an amazing tank! Sorry - off topic but out of curiosity -- how has the Singapore Angel done in the reef as far as picking at certain corals etc...

The Singapore angel is a model citizen. Like any angel it picks on almost anything but moves around continuously so it does no harm. I have never even seen it touch the clam mantels. However, it is a very shy fish. It took almost a year before it got more bold rather than continuously hiding in rocks. It has always come out to feed though.

No it is ok... those sps are sitting perfectly there.

I will send you itinerary as I will be coming personally to collect that, and get 'it off your hands' as the coral needs some more room to grow.

What makes you guys think gigs max out at about 24"? I wish it was true though since this one is soon taking up a big chunk of space. They certainly get bigger in the wild.
