Bean's 300 Gallon AGE Build

Thanks. Ordering another couple hundred in plumbing today. Ugh. But its going to be nice and pretty! :lol2:

It's funny, the build of the hardware is a whole adventure in and of itself.

My hardware portion of my build is complete and now I'm sort of: huh, now what?

Well, obviously the "now what" is put coral and fish in but I have been so immersed inbuild mode that it's a little tough to transition.

Cody make sure you add in that anti siphon check valve into the return line.

I don't trust those freaking things. Be sure to inspect/clean and test every 6 months.

IMO, it is best to engeneer your return to break the siphon in the event of a pump or power failure.

Thats what hes talking about. Its a trick version Melev did on reefaddicts. Check valve backwards with the elbow down into your water. Siphon break .

I have always just put the return nozzle high enough that the sump can handle the siphon. Do you have a link?

I like to use really small and efficient return pumps because pumping against head is really expensive. Those check valves restrict flow.

The sea swirls sit about 3 inches down into the tank. I do plan to cut the length down so they sit a but closer to the water line. I think the sump will handle the extra water. Im going to install this as a precaution.

OK, I'm doing that.

I had been drilling small holes right below the water line but those need to be kept clean, which is a lot simpler than servicing a inline check valve, but needs to be done none the less.

I'm going to put a union just before the 1/2 check valve so I can service it periodically.

I did that with my sea swirl but it will add micro bubble to your tank

Interesting idea. You can use a very small check valve for that purpose.

Any water yet?

How's the progress?

Im enjoying Kona Hawaii with my family until Thanksgiving then its on! Gettint some inspiration and motivation since weve been out here.

I need to decide on flow pumps. No vortechs or junkbaos on this build. I need 3 that will move water 6 feet. Any new pumps out I could try?
