Beginner SPS (trying to avoid bugs)

If I'm not mistaken, the RED BUGS only attack 'acropora'? I was searching and I'm not sure what is considered acropora.

What beginner SPS are good and are not suspectible to the 'red bug'. So far I've compiled a list.

Montipora

*please suggest :)

All acros can get them....just dip ALL sps corals before going into your tank for at least 5-6 hours with interceptor...then You will NEVER have to make the choice of "to treat or not to treat" avoid the choice altogether...

Please don't avoid the AWSOME acros for fear of the red buggers....just dip that simple!

Where can I get interceptor?

I'd still want to know what are some good beginner SPS, and I understand the risk/return w/ these beautiful specimen. It's just that I want to take this lightly before advancing.

Check with your local vet. It is heartworm medication for dogs. I told them it was for my fish tank and I didn't need a perscription.

Some good beginner SPS are:

Montipora digitata
Montipora capricornis
Pavona Decussata
Seriatopora hystrix

It also depends on what type of lighting you have. I have grown all of these with PC lighting, but they tend to brown out. If you have metal halides, then you should see retention of their colors.

I did a whole tank treatment, now I dip every acro I introduce. Usually at a very high concentration for 5 hours but sometimes only for 2 hours more or less.

Are wild acro colonies more susceptible to red bugs?

While there are certainly red bugs in the wild, I believe they only became a problem when in the closed aquaria, where the red bugs can easily spread from tank to tank via frag swaps and the like. I think they are not as likely to be on a wild colony, but a wild colony can certainly get them as soon as they come in. IME valida's are particularly targeted, with millies the least likely to be infested. But just qt and dip anything going into your tank.
