Best beginner anemone

Hi all,
I'd like to dedicate my 29g biocube to a single species of anemone.Lighting is pheonix 150w mh.I plan on taking everything out except my percula pair and 25lbs of lr.In your opinion what would be the best beginner nem?,I love the look of the H. crispa but maybe not for someone who has'nt kept a nem before, which nem are the percs most likley to host?,thanks in advance.

GBTA/RBTA may be some of the easier to keep, but are not a natural host for your clownfish.

The natural host for your clownfish are not easy to keep and mostly not reccomended for a tank of your size.

If you want to have multiple nems you should go with the BTA's because they are colonial and can touch without problems, in general (I have had some issues with them near eachother). Your clownfish can potentially associate with BTA's but its hit or miss.

In my paticular case I was unable to get my clowns to take to BTA's over the course of a year. A natural host saw them associating within an hour.

BTA's are hit & miss with clowns hosting them, my clown pair host a Haddoni and I have a RBTA close to it and they ignore it completely.

Thanks all,
what clown would be a natural host for bta and what nem would be suitable for my percs?,thanks

Perc's natural hosts are crispa, magnificas, and giganteas. Not the easiest group at all. And bta's are naturally hosted by gold stripe maroons. But I have a pair of occelaris that haven't met a bta they didn't like to visit. Maroons can be rough on bta's but if their are a couple of the bta's to share the "love" then it's a bit better for them.

I have two picasso perculas that host several RBTAs along with a blue gig near them. Believe it or not they prefer the RBTA and actually spawn right beside them rather than the blue gig but they frequently visit all the nems.

Percs are unlikely to associate with Condy's as they are not a natural host to any clownfish in the wild.

Also for clarification, clownfish Associate, anemone Host

I would suggest going with the BTA's, they are seen as one of the easiest hosting anemone and are still likely to host your clownfish. If your clowns choose not to associate its just part of the risk of using BTA's. BTA's are highly unlikely to eat your clowns because they have one of the most timid stings of the hosting anemone.

BTA's are easiest... but I would still consider them moderately difficult inverts to keep. Once established in a stable system they can be very hardy and can reproduce asexually (which can be a bonus if you desire to sell the offspring).

Thanks every one for responses:thumbsup:I'm going to go with a rbta and gbta alone in the 29 with the percs, see what happens.

I have a jbj 28g with LED fixtures and I have a GBTA for about 6 months now, it's doing great but I'm worried about it's size. It's getting real big now and I'm hoping it will split soon.
Luckily my two ocellaris from ORA are associating with it very beautifully.
