New to reef keeping and was wondering what do you guys and gals think is a good first anemone for beginners? Thanks

Long tentacle anemone (lta)
They are the most forgiving anemone. And most clowns will host them before bubble tips
I would wait 6 to 12 months before adding an anemone

I don't know if that is true? I think BTA host more different species that any nem?

Anyway, if you live near Northern NJ, I have a few BTA and you can have one for free if you can pick it up.

PM me if interested.

Small bubble tip anemone should be ok.

A small E.Quadricolor will give you enough room for it to grow in a nano tank.

I wouldn't keep an M.Doreensis in a nano. It depends on how small or large is your nano tank, because the natural symbionts of the M.Doreensis need a larger tank than your average sized nano.

Thanks for the info! Ill be sure to get one suited for my tank size. Still need to wait a few months to hit the 6 month mark.

it depends on if you want anything else in your tank.. Before you know it one small BTA in a nano will end up like this..

If you have a sand bed, I get a H. malu.

I don't think clowns will accept mini-maxies.

While it is true that a BTA will outgrow your tank; if you let it, you just cut them in half once a year and give one half away. I've successfully kept BTA in 10 gal tanks for three years. In that time I've given away two and have three to give away.

BTA are like guppies. You will run out of tank if you don't get rid of some.

^^^this. BTAs can be propagated. So I wouldn't deprive myself of pleasure having an anemone in a 20 gal.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend a LTA in a 20 gallon either.
