Best nori to feed your fish

I have 8 tangs among other fish in my 600 g system.
I feed 3 sheets of nori in a clip each day. I have noticed that when fish eat nori from the clip a lot (and I mean a lot) of nori little pieces get suspended in water. Some of these pieces get eaten by other fish but a lot do not and it can become a mayor pollutant in the tank.

I am thinking that some brands of nori are better than other ones, to avoid this to happen. what brand of nori do you use? have you noticed flying nori pieces?

please tell me how can I avoid this problem

Fold the sheets up so there is more contact with the clip.

I cut the sheet in half and fold it several times but it does the same.

What brands are people using? I don't feed nori yet, but I will be in the future. Is there a need to buy a fish food specific brand or will nori sheets from my local asian grocer work as well?

Best nori to feed your fish

Cheap raw nori from Asian market works great. Use in a marine grazer feeder.

I get cheap Nori from Japanese or Korean markets (or Oriental Market). Chinese and Vietnamese don't use Nori in their traditional dishes. It cost about 10.00 for 100 sheet 8X8 inches. You cannot get it any cheaper than that. 2 little fish and Rod's food have a huge mark up.

Below are how I use to fix them into the tank for my fish. I hand them away from the wall so my Sea Urchin, Snails, and Abalone don't devour them.

I cut them in to 1/4 as below. Some Red and some green Nori

The second picture I dipped it in water. Stack of 3 or 2. Third picture I folded it three times. The 4th picture is how I put it on a clip. The last picture show the club after 3 hrs or so. At the end of the day there will be no nori that can be remo e by the fish. I used a fish line to hang the clip right at the water surface for the fish to eat.
IMO this is the best way to feed your fish Nori. Cheap, and no waste. I never see any piece of nori float around the tank.

Plain nori from the asian market. Make sure it just has seaweed or nori as the only ingredient. No salt. Cheaper and fresher than what you get meant for fish. I fold it a couple times and cut into short strips.

I also buy green nori in bulk from the local Asian market. They don't carry red unfortunately. All nori disintegrates quickly in water, so multiple folds in a clip does the trick.

I couldn't get my fish to eat nori which I tried several kinds until I got LRS and they all loved it. Even the supposed meat eaters.

I've since though have switched to Asian market store bought. I like the half sheets and will put two half sheets in at a time one on each side of the tank. Like above I fold them up into a cube and clip them in. They all eat it now too.

Air dried pure nori.

I use half sheets fold in half, then another fold in half, then over half and then other half and I still get all of nori pieces suspended in water
My fish finish the sheet in 5 min so it is not a matter of the nori staying to long in water.
I have seen then some of the big tangs ( 10" big) do a big pull of the sheet when they bite, and that is when a lot of nori particles get suspended in water.

I am not sure if I have to fold them in a different way? or if it is the brand of nori that I am using?

Has anyone of you seen that some brand of nori do this independently of how you fold them?

I use the least expensive Nori I can find in the Asian grocery store. I fold mine over and over until it's about 2x2 and put it in the clip. For whatever reason, mine does not fall apart.

Dont think its a matter of what type of nori, but what clip. Perhaps a clip that has a net that keeps most medium/small pieces inside. Makes the tangs work harder, but keeps everything in place.

It is not what type or what clip. How you fold it is what keep it from breaking apart. One way to fold it that works is how I fold is as pictured above.

I buy the nori at the Asian market then wrap it around a PVC pipe with fishing line, secured with a rubber band then just hang it into the tank. You can wrap it pretty tight, then no pieces float around.

Yes. I have two, one for the display and one for the QT. You can actually build a u-shaped PVC with one very sort end and one long end (for the nori). I even drilled a small hole in the pipe to run the fishing line through so it is secured on the top end, then wrap the nori and just slap a rubber band on the end. Works great!
