Best Skimmer Under $450

I was wondering if I should wait for the Q or take advantage of the sale.
What will the Q have that makes it better?

I ended up going with a used Reef Octopus POC DC1 with a neck cleaner and skimmate collector. Heard good things - hoping it will work out!! :)

See if you can find a Reef Octopus with a DC pump on sale.

Got our DCS 300 on sale for a really great price!

Took a while to get it all dialed in, now it's skimming nice and wet :D

I just contacted Aquamaxx and they say their Q series has been shipped, should be at Marine depot in about a week, so looks like I'm going to wait for one of those myself.
Wonder if I can get marine depot to honor that coupon still, maybe if I pre order, wonder if that's even possible?
Anywhoo, I think that's going to be the skimmer to get for those wanting quality at a decent price.

OP Reefocto's are great as well, like I said that would be my next choice and if you got one used that's a nice score, saves a few bucks on a great skimmer.

Ah thanks, I was wondering.
That's about the same price they already are.
I'm sure the Q1 will be plenty of skimmer for my 120g and I like the pump inside the body at the base, leaves more room and I'm sure that will be cheaper as well.

Where did you see the Q1?

I was just assuming they are just upgrading/improving their line of skimmers that are already carried by marine depot, correct me if you know otherwise, because if not I will just grab the one they have in stock on sale.
It really looks like all I really need, but I suppose that tapered foam tube and other new features would be nifty if it's close to same price.

I agree. I would rather have a Q1 slightly smaller and all I would need for my tank. If you look at the EM skimmer line it looks as if they discontinued the base model EM100. Most places only carry the EM200. I have not seen a Q1 so my assumption is they are starting with the Q2 as the base model similar to what they did with the EM series.

BTW, I called Big Al's today. They sell straight from JNS so you don't have to go through Aquamaxx who rebrand the JNS and mark the price up for the US market. Big Al's said they should have the Q series sometime in July. The sales associate seemed unsure of his answer and couldn't not give me a definitive date. I'd check in with Big Al's and see what they have to say. I'd expect them to be about 5-10% cheaper than Marine Depot.

I would assume it would be best for business to continue to accomidate the more common smaller tanks, but that would be just an assumption.
Maybe I'm foolish to not just grab that C0-1, especially if they do just go to 2's and up on the Q series.
Thanks for the tip on Big Als, I'll check that, but w/ MDs sales and their customer service, plus being fairly local, free shipping gets me next day delivery every time, kinda hard to stray.

I have the CO-1 on my 75 and it performs excellent! I would recommend the skimmer to you. It will surely out perform any other skimmer and require minimal space.
