Beta of new Apex firmware now available!

There is a username and password that I can't disable

That's the wrong syntax. You're missing the @ sign. Use this:

"username:password@hostname:port/[remainder of URL]"

so for example:

Loving the update! Loving Apex.
I do feel that the branding is over the top. I would lose the white bar above the nav bar and move the APEX logo to the top left corner. I agree with all the main points that have already been acknowledged. Anxiously waiting for my IP cam, scheduled for delivery tomorrow.
Android App date??

Not sure if this is a Chrome issue or Apex. But there is no right/left slider bar on the bottom of the dashboard page. I work with computers with different resolutions, and when I go to a narrower screen the tiles push off to the right and there isn't a slide bar to slide over and see the information off screen. Is this a fixable issue ?

Anyone one else still pulling the old webpages after the update?
I must be doing something wrong:

-have 2 Apexes, and both fail to load the dashboard (loads old pages), on my Apex lite if I manually type in "nsetup" I get a slightly different page, shows non-url/non working choice: "setup" but still no GUI ....

-this is even after IE9's cache was cleared and the "web page" was updated using the firmware utility (same issue in Chrome browser), both Apex's do show the new firmware version

...I've run the update 2x on both Apexes, and recycled/re-booted, any ideas?

All is well with new formware over here. Just a suggestion, I'm not sure if it has been brought up here yet. What I would like to see, on the graph "tiles" is some sort of tick mark designating a timeline. I know this is on the actual "Graphs" page when you go there but a simple maybe hourly tick mark in the tiles?

Also, I have a pair of D-Link DCS-930L cams working with my new tiles as well. One in tank, one in sump. Did I read somewhere that you can provide a URL that contains the username and password so it won't prompt everytime?

New firmware is awesome! Thanks for all the hard work. I'm a big fan.

It's a post from RussM, somewhere in the first 50 or so posts in this thread.

The instructions are in post #43, it works with the 930L but only in Chrome, NOT in IE9.

Has anyone been able to get a stream from a 930L remotely? The tile works locally on my home network, and even at work because I have a VPN tunnel to home, but I cannot get it to work remotely. I have a static IP address for my home network that works to access the APEX, but if I try:

http://myip/video/mjpg.cgi

I get the error message: "404 not found"

any ideas? Also the tile in the APEX firmware does not work when I am working remotely.

ReefTeacher - try setting User Access Control on the Admin page of the 930L. If I understand what the manual says, that should eliminate the need to embed username and password on the camera URL - which as I said earlier, is to be used only a last-resort.

For remote access to the camera, have you configured port forwarding? Are you specifying the proper port number in the remote URL? Post screen shots of router port forwarding if need be.

ReefTeacher / Russ -

Thanks for the info. I actually just turned user access control off, even though passing the username and password in the url string worked too.

ReefTeacher,
I have it working local and remotely. For remote it will boil down to two things, Port Forwarding and firewall issues. Also make sure you are using your current public IP address.

Thanks again.

Well I did mine this morning and it worked out great! Did not have a single issue at all.

Started playing with it and moving tiles around. Now I just need a cam to add that feature as well. A big thumbs up to Neptune Systems.

Can folks give recomendation on Cams that are workign well. I know some where using old models that are not for sale anymore. Not looking to spend an arm and leg on a Cam but would like to have one running.

What are my options for updating if I don't have a way to connect my MacAir to the router wired? The Apex is connected to the router via a cable, and I connect via wireless with the Mac. Am I SOL?

Best solution in that scenario is the USB to Ethernet adapter available from Apple for $29. Otherwise, it's pretty much a dice roll if the update works or bricks the controller.

There are reports of cameras which work in various recent threads, including one just on that topic.

Sorry I must of missed it. Went back and did a search and still did not see it. I want to be able to place the video on the new status page as others are doing.

I have cam up and running and I cna access it local as well as using the public static IP from anywhere.

I put the local and the public IP just as instructions say but still wont work. I think its becasue it requires username and password.

Firmware update, even if it fails mid update should never 'brick' a controller. If you killed the update mid stream the Apex will start in boot-loader mode which will allow you to retry the update.

Wireless update does work but as mentioned, it adds some risk if the wireless connection is intermittent.

As I said in another thread to you... If you want help, you need to give us enough details to work with.. You have to help us help you. Like by telling us the camera model in this case....
