Beta of new Apex firmware now available!

As I said in another thread to you... If you want help, you need to give us enough details to work with.. You have to help us help you. Like by telling us the camera model in this case....

Yep your sounding like a broken record. If you don't want to help don't reply.

My question is in regards to the streaming video for the newfirware.

I have the camera setup on an extra staic IP I have. Its working great both local and on the public web. However I am thinking because I have to put in a password and username its not displaying on my dashboard.

I have messed around with it some more and have it where you can view it without username and password. But video still does not show up on the dashboard.

Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Sorry for typos doing this from my phone.

Firmware update, even if it fails mid update should never 'brick' a controller. If you killed the update mid stream the Apex will start in boot-loader mode which will allow you to retry the update.

Wireless update does work but as mentioned, it adds some risk if the wireless connection is intermittent.

I purchased the connector and a 50 foot cable (router on another floor) and it worked like a champ! Thanks all! I now have the new software.. Off tomorrow to get a camera now!

Thanks Apex, Russ, Bazineta, and Kenargo!

I had the same issue on the first run, I clicked the update button again and it went through the second time.

yeah I tried that, rebooted the controller still getting the same thing. I had this problem the last time I tried updating the firmware. Seems like it has something to do with FIOS if I remember correctly. RussM was able to figure it out.

Russ.....you got pm buddy :lol2:

Geesh Steve - that was a long time ago. I can't remember what I did a week ago... :D

You are using the Apex's actual IP address and port in the updater?

LOL....I know. I remember it was something pretty simple too but cant remember what it was. I am using the actual IP address and port for the Apex. I also tried to do it with windows parallels and got a similar message.

Camera is a D-Link DCS-942L

The URL I was trying to use the IP but guessing that does not work.
I also have a 942L

URL examples for DCS-942L:

Local: http://192.168.1.35/video/mjpg.cgi
Remote: http://seemyreef.dyndns.org:8080/video/mjpg.cgi

In the remote URL, use your router's public IP address or dynamic DNS hostname, and the public port number you used in the router's port forwarding fo the camera.

BTW, if you have not discovered it yet, the 942L with the most current firmware has a known big problem with using night (infrared) mode even when there is plenty of ambient light.... no color, just grayscale video The solution is to disable night mode - at least until D-Link fixes it in a firmware update.

Ok so what is I am doing wrong? Please see below

http://xx.xx.xx.xx/video/mjpg.cgi

I placed X where my public IP would be. Maybe the issue is I am using a public static IP for my Apex and another public static IP for the camera.

As far as port goes the camera is on port 80 which is the same port the apex is on however they are on seperate staic IP's

Does this make sense? If not I will try to explain further.

Oh boy...somethings not right now. Screen is black, amber light is flashing on base unit and I cant connect to it. I had given up on doing the firmware upgrade tonight so when I went to unplug the ethernet cable, I pulled the aquabus cable for the power by mistake. I waited a couple of minutes and plugged it back in and then nothing. Am I toast now?

Ok, with that SonicWALL, you should be fine using 2 unique static IP addresses - I don't think that has anything to do with it; you said that you can access it both internally and externally with a browser without authenticating, so the network side should all be OK. Those URLs appear fine - they should work in the dashboard. If you want to PM me the full remote URL, I'll give it a try here.

Thanks again and PM has been sent

The remote URL works fine in FF and Chrome. It will not work with IE - IE does not support the MJPEG streams of this camera. (if IE works for you when you view the full camera web page, it's because you installed a helper plugin for IE when you installed the camera setup software)

Okthats strange cause I am using Chrome and not IE for that reason.

I looked at what you have posted and its just what I have and it will not work.

Ok I just installed fire fox have not used that in years. But I get the same result a big blank square and no video.

It works for you but wont work for me that makes no sense at all.....I am lost!
