Biggest Multibar Angel I've ever seen.

Just received a Multibar angel from Michael at NYAquatic.

Just stunning, my new favorite fish in the system.

I was not expecting him to be this big, I've seen them in the stores and they always looked smaller like a flame. This one is double the size of the Flame angel.

My Regal hates him right now, and is chasing him a lot, but the aggression is subsiding.

Michael always has great stuff and is the only person i have bought fish from in the past year or so (other than a False Personifer from DD) Good to see your Mitratus is still doing well.

How long is he?

I had a large locally caught one that had only been collected a few days earlier. It was maybe 5" long but what surprised me was how solid it was, all the way through till it's tail. Through my own stupidity I left the DT uncovered and it jumped. But I'll never forget that width, almost reminded me of a large angel in that respect...

It's hard to say, I'll take a closer look and try to measure tomorrow.

That's a similar feeling I have when I look at him, he looks like a small - Large Angel, looks almost as big as my Regal which I think is why he doesn't like him. I hope the chasing stops tomorrow.

Thankd Dmorty, yeah Michael is awesome, this Multibar looked under the weather a few weeks back when I first purchased, so be held fora couple of weeks to make sure he was healthy and eating. Not sure how many stores would do that. Hope your fish are doing well, can't wait to see you get another Mitratus one day.

Not alot going on in my tank at the moment. We are building a home so I can finally setup the 625g... Thats not the only reason we are building but thats part of the stipulation. I loved that little butterfly and was so happy to get it, but then disaster struck. Roll with the punches right? I will without a doubt have another one

7ftx6ftx2ft with sump and refugium total water volume around 1200g with another 200g worth of a QT system

I'm going stir crazy myself. I will have been looking at this empty tank for a yr come may so I'm ready to get some water in it to say the least

Wow I can only imagine, tanks looks so big when there empty too. It will be worth it though, the build is part of the fun.

So I tried to measure, from what I can tell he's 4.25" nose to end of tail. So I guess he's about average, and I must have small flame Angels, as he dwarfs them (no pun intended)

Here's a quick video, as you'll see, Reggie the Regal still hasn't accepted him, it's definitely less each day, but still the occasional act of aggression.

I'm assuming this is somewhat normal, just new fish trying to find where he stands and the higher ranked fish making sure the new kid knows there the boss?

You'll see I've stuck a picture of a Regal to the tank, to try distract the regal from the Multibar.

Does anyone else keep a Multibar and a Regal together?

The aggression is not so bad now, but the Multibar is being kept to one side of the tank.

When I researched I didn't see a problem, just curious to see if anyone else has these fish together, and your experience in doing so?

Cheers

He's picking the rocks, tried live brine and live blackworms, also tried LRS reef frenzy.

He's not eating yet that I've seen. But it's only been a couple of days.

I have a Red Sea regal with a pair of multi-bars. My Regal is pretty timid and doesn't pay any attention to any of the other fish in the tank. The Regal has been in the tank for 2.5 years. The multi-bars have been in the tank for over a year. The multi-bars don't take any foods put in the tank. They just pick off the rock work.

My QT is all setup, I wonder if I removed the Regal and placed in the QT for a couple weeks. Do you think when he returned to the DT he would feel like the new fish and be less aggressive? Anyone think this is a good or bad idea?

Did you QT the multibar or place him right into the DT

Yes removing the regal for a week would probably help out with the aggression

I was all setup to QT him, set my salinity to 1.019, but I tested the bag water and it was 1.025, so I didn't have an option other than to place him straight into the DT. I didn't want to expose him to the ammonia in the bag water for any amount of time

Well, I'm sad to say, this did not end well.

I lost the Multibar today. The aggression from the Regal never fully stopped, although I did think I was in the clear about a week ago when the aggression subsided and the multibar was allowed to roam all around the tank, rather than just one end.

Although it looks like that came at a price, there was wounds on the multibars sides, I presume they'd had a blowout fight and settled ranking between them.

I was monitoring closely but thought the best course of action was to leave in the tank and hope it healed, of course with a crystal ball handy I would now have tried to remove and hospitalize with meds asap. I suspect the wound got infected, and that was the main cause.

Very sad, nothing worse than having a fish taken from its home, travel half way around the world, through a whole lot of stress no doubt, only to pass in your care.

I've got a lot or resentment towards the regal right now, he's turned out to be such a bully. I tried putting acrylic sheet up, and even egg crate to split the 2 sides of the tank, he was the only fish that found a way from side to side, just to bully the multibar.

Anyway, this was my first and last time trying a multibar. That is unless one day I upgrade to a mammoth tank where a multibar would never have to meet the regal.

Just wanted to post a conclusion to this, and my experience with these fish.

Really sorry to hear this didn't work out for you. :(

On a brighter note how many people can say they have an assertive, as opposed to timid regal? I know it doesn't seem that way right now, but this is a plus.

OTOH I'm not sure I'd try a multibar with that particular regal again, even if you did fatten the multibar in a qt first. Just my thoughts.
