Bimaculatus anthias, who has them?

just got my bimacs yesterday from drs. foster. They were alittle big for my likeing but an amazing fish to say the least. Will have pics soon. Got two of them and two female lyertails, and one male manderian lyertails. Looks nothing like the picture on the website though. He is really purple. Bimacs are almost 4-5 inches...
 
everyone seems to really love this fish. I am gonna order some more when i upgrade my tank. Fish of the year!
 
They seem to all come in larger than your average Anthias. I would have preferred to get them a little smaller also, but they are great as is.
My Male has finally realized that the Angel Fish will not hurt him. Female is out more now also.

As for Feeding.....
I'm lazy, have only fed my tank once per day for years, and mostly just Flake Food. You think I'm hurting my Anthias by not feeding 3 times a day as recommended by many.

Hef, I've kept many anthias over the years and feed twice a day usually (sometimes more) a mix of frozen foods. Mind you anthias are planktonic feeders and feeding them is rather simple. Get into the habit of feeding more often, maybe by adding a frozen feeding. Just deforst a few cubes in some water and dump it in... your anthias and other fish will appreciate it. Underfed anthias shows signs well of being underfed, with bony bodies and drab color... I've seen it often unfortunately, but again it takes so little work and the benefits are huge... and it's fun!

My male bimac feeds like a grouper, taking near whole cubes of gel based formula foods that my angels used to tag...
 
do you guys think that it would be ok for me to put 1 male bimac in my 55 gallon reef tank. all i have in there currently is a maroon clown.

I think you need to hold the cam steadier or use a tripod. Fast moving fish are always hard to take a clear pic of.
 
Yes, pictures taken at an angle to the front glass often will come out unfocused. Try to shoot square into the tank. You can see your shot is looking into the left corner. The camera thinks it's focused but the angle throws it off. Happens to me a lot.
 
I would think that would be fine. Others may feel it's too small of a tank, but you dont have a lot of fish in there.
 
I'd hesitate to put anthias in a 55. First off these fish are really meant to be in a group. The neat thing of this species is the interaction amongst the group. A 55 is too small for this. Second thing...good luck finding a male bimac. I've been looking for months with no avail. Maybe you have connections??
 
Wow I think I found my final fish purchase. I do have few questions.

Any issues with these fish jumping?
Would 1 male and 2 females make a good group?
I keep my tank at 80 degrees is that ok?
I also have 1000 watts over it, will that be too bright?
 
Hey Steve, go back one page on this thread and you'll see pictures of my 1 male/2 female group. Not really issues with jumping...

Also, I keep my tank between 78 and 82 and they're fine, and I have exactly 2000 watts of lighting and they've adapted fine...

Well my Anthias have finally settled in, the Female is out and swimming the entire tank. Spends most of her time Front & Center.
