Well I think Im convinced about ordering an RO/DI unit from Filter guys (75gpd $160).The eBay stuff just looks so flimsy , and in an aquarium if you don't get the water right from the start I suppose you have no chance of success.
I feel almost like a kid at Christmas, tomorrow I get my skimmer (Vertex IN-100) and Ill order that RO/DI unit.
I keep taking the wife up to see MemFish's main display tank during this initial setup expense -"Look honey you'll have one of those green brain things soon" yeah right ,Ill probably kill off the first 10 new acquisitions right away...lol hope not tho!

Sorry to ramble!

John, that's a great investment. You GOTTA have an RO/DI unit. Besides, once you do, you can do "water changes on-the-fly" from your salt vat.

You won't be sorry mate.

Rambling is ok, we all understand. I don't believe you're likely to kill off much. Just take your time, be patient with it and you'll do fine. I'm sure you've heard it already, but it's worth saying again, in this hobby nothing good happens fast.

I don't know about the Filter Guys, but AirWaterIce is who I shop with and their fantastic. Customer service is gotta be second to none! Correct me if I'm wrong here WTMRAC peeps, but their still sponsors arent they? Do they still offer a club discount?

Thanks for your inputs guys!
[MrRyanT]-The model filter you and I discussed seemed like it would be good if used by an experienced saltwater person, probably not for the novice or for the less "DIY" able .I just chickened out!

The units are really easy to set up, and if you do not know where you want to set it up permanantly I have mine set up where it is portable.

I used a "luggage carrier" bought at a garage sale for $1.00 and attached a piece of plywood to it and then attached the unit to the plywood. It is easy to move around whereever it is needed, and can be unhooked and rolled out of the way.

Hey John ,All ro-di units are pretty simple to setup.I have one that I bought off ebay,it has done graet for 4 years now.It only cost about $ 130.00.

Check the forums on RC. I saw one the other day for 100. Dont worry to much about your set up. I did everything i could wrong and so far nothing dead. A little slime algea is all i have had to deal with! Good luck!!

Yup , I'm throwing water down the drain like nobody's business now!
MemFish had just as good a deal as Filter Guys so I bought it.Not too difficult to set it up.Gonna do my freshwater tank water change with it tomorrow.
Thanks for all the info!
Also ordered that Vertex today
