i just got this little combo from one of the lfs and was wondering if i actually got what i paid for. someone at my local marine group said one clown might be a saddleback so i'd like to see what other peoples opinins are since i don't know to much on the matter. heres a pic of them.

yeah, pretty sure btas are quite a bit less.

yours is bigger than mine was when i bought it, i paid about 35 dollars maybe 40.00

oh, your fish are cute :)

Yeah, they're both black A. ocellaris clowns.

I've seen BTA's like yours sold for anywhere between $40 to $100. The ritteri's that have been in LFS's around here are usually in the $60 to $100 price range.

I think that you'll find that the BTA is a better fit if it's for the 25g tank you've got listed in your signature. As for whether or not you got your moneys worth ... You'll have to figure that out.

Still, you've got a good looking combo with the black clowns and the anemone.

thanks for the quick repsonses. i'm definitly happy with how they're all working out except the anemone hasn't ate yet. i got him last night and decided to try a small piece of shrimp tonight but with no luck. i'll try again in a couple more days and hopefully he gobbles it up.

but with the fact that it was sold to me as something else kind of gets to me because the guy prob gave me wrong answers to my other questions then too plus the fact that its about $60-70 than what btas are sold for around here.

maybe someone here could answer my questions. will a tank thats been running for 2 months be good enough to keep the anemone going? its in a 130g with 3x 250w mh 12000k, 4x 40w actinics and about 6000gph flow rate. also would feeding it every 3 days with a small piece of shrimp be enough food or should i feed it every 2? and nitrates and ammonia is 0

HI There.

Hmmm i would be worried that your tank isn't old enough. Most suggest not to get one untill it is 6 months as they are much more stable. But what is done is done unless you can take it back?
You are going to have to watch the params very carefully as anemones like very clean water. Make sure you do water changes and keep an eye on the nitrates. The lighting is enough for a bta as we'll as is the flow. Give it some time to acclimatize to your tank and then try to feed it. I would give it a few days and then cute a silverside up in about 1/2 inch pieces and try to feed it one little piece. You may have to try a few different meaty foods, silversides, mussells, clams, shrimp(raw) And see what it likes.
And yep you probably paid to much for it. We canadians always pay to much for stuff:)

yeah lisa i was thinking the same with waiting longer but when i asked the guy about this he said its not neccessary and a anemone could go in a tank 2 weeks old as long as you kept the water quality good. in a way i knew better about getting this but i really wanted those 2 clowns and was thinking the anemone would make them a little more comfortable in the tank. i am really surprised with how much adventuring they did when they first got in since i find a lot of other small fish normally swim into a little hole and hide for a bit. finny watching them trying to swim up the front of the tank were one of the seio 2600's are aiming. the smallest guy would have to make a couple attempts before he got back to the bta.

just got a hold of the store and they are going to give me $70 credit. though they are trying to convince me now that its a carpet anemone. i just don't see it when i look at pics of them and then the one i got. i'm just happy they realized the mistake they made and are going to make up for it and that i got something the clowns are hosting with.

LMAO yep that is not a carpet:)
Its funny what a lfs will tell you to sell you something. I wouldn't keep an anemone in a 2 week old tank if my life depended on it.
Just keep your water really good and hopefully all will be good. I agree clowns are a blast to watch. Although i have a true perc with one of my lta's and she is the meanest little fish if my hand goes within 2 feet of her home. Ihad to get a set of the long handle feeding tools just to feed her home...lol
But my black saddleback could care less if i touch her home. Weird how there personalities develop.

Let us know how all is going...
