Blue Haddoni

I'm glad you found a protocol that appears to be working. The challenge is finding something that works before the anemone dies. Best of luck and keep up the good work. I know it's a pain to have nems in QT, but it's definitely worth the extra effort!

It is a pain, but I signed up for it. Luckily I have a nice RODI set up and mixing station. I pump new saltwater straight through the wall to my fish room from the garage. I have a quick disconnect hose that makes it a snap.

I sure didn't realize how big the nem would be, but I think what I am doing is working..

Time will tell.

I've treated the nem for 7 days in HT with Cipro and Septra.
It seemed to respond well but still occasionally expelled zooxanthelle.
I stopped treatment 5 days ago and the haddoni seemed to be doing ok. But 2 days ago it took a turn for the worst. Today is is just a pancake with huge gaping mouth. I doubt it will survive the night.

I sure didn't expect a specimen in such poor health from the Divers Den. But I don't think I will order anemones from them again. I've not been impressed with the health of the gig or haddoni I ordered from them. Mind you I spent $800 for the two and both arrived sick and didn't survive.
Even after particular care for extensive amounts of time.

Sorry you have had bad luck with DD nems. I am skeptical about ordering anemones online. I usually wait out till I see something I want. However, I live in a fish store saturated market and understand that not everyone has the same access to SW livestock. You have done the best you could. Best of luck next time.

I only have 1 store within 200 miles and the owner doesn't usually keep much in stock. He prefers people order from him so he can keep a small inventory.

Losing the haddoni is pretty heartbreaking. I'm highly disappointed.

I appreciate the kind words.

I am sorry that they did not do well. I have had my share of anemone that did not make it.
Of the three anemones seen above which one if any make it?

I think in the future I will only treat one anemone at a time, or else treat them in separate tank. If an anemone fail treatment, he will most likely get everything in the tank sick, so IMO, three anemone will triple the chance of failure to all of them.

I'm increasingly of the view that it's not worth paying the DD premium for anemones. Nems ship so poorly that I don't believe the DD protocols net you any added benefits. Fish from them, absolutely; anemones, probably not.

We need to figure out why the LA anemones in particular are doing so poorly. I don't think we can chalk it all up to shipping stress. Virtually all nems we get from an LFS (except for those from customers' tanks) were shipped at some point and went through essentially the same stresses as a LA anemone, but the success rates appear to be much higher.

I would also be curious to see recent success rates from other vendors such as ibluewater and bluezoo.

Success rates are pretty poor from LA lately.
I would be curious to hear more about other purchases from LA and other vendors too.

Yep.
I completely agree and won't be buying an in the future from them.

The gig is doing pretty well. I've moved it to a display tank. Although yesterday it didnt seem happy. I might have to treat it again.

The magnifica didnt like that change after I stopped treatment.
It's doing ok this morning. But it still isnt happy.
It was slowly improving but took a turn backwards.
I hope it will improve again.

I think if we see poor looking anemone at the LFS, we just don't buy it so the sucess from the LFS is higher.
MO anemone, we cannot judge, we just have to take the seller word for it. Also, sick anemone do look great at times (early in the course) In fact early in the course of illness, they look great most of the time, so rely on photo is iffy at best.
Essentially when we buy MO, the anemone may or may not be healthy. Then there is 24-36 hrs shipping added on to that. This will result in lower sucess rate. Haddoni seem to be much better shipper, then Magnifica then Gigantea. Overall Magnifica and Gigantea are poor shipper with Gigantea much poorer shipper than Magnifica.
FWIW, my batting average for anemone online are: 0/6-8(can't remeber how many I bough online) for Magnifica nad Gigantea. I hit 2/4 for Haddoni. 2/2 for Malu.

Thats not an encouraging average especially coming from you Minh. Were those specimens that were bought from different online vendors?

Of the statistic above, I only 2 anemones since I start treatment with antibiotic. A Magnifica fro AquaSD and a Gigantea from LA, neither make it. All the other anemones were before antibiotic.

Yeah, but remember that we are not privy to the number that may arrive at the LFS is such poor shape that they never get put out on display.
