Blusepot jawfish question

I bought a jawfish for my 58 Thursday, after acclimation he went right in and made a burrow, then the next evening I noticed he was outside the burrow swimming along the front of the glass and pretty much everywhere BUT his burrow.

Later that night I get home and he had jumped into my overflow, I got him out and he went right down to his burrow and I noticed my lawnmower blenny was following him, so now I am thinking he is being harassed and is unhappy in my tank. I have a 58 full of live rock and lots of caves and places to hide..

Can anyone suggest something I could do to make the jawfish feel more comfortable? I tried putting a piece of PVC in the sand but he hasn't gone in it yet.. I'm hoping this is something that will pass. Besides the jawfish I have a LM blenny, mandarin goby, cherub angel, 2 firefish, pair onyx percula clowns, pistol shrimp and yasha goby, and finally a small coral banded shriimp.

anyone have any ideas? Thanks
 
If you have a qt put the blenny in there while the jaw fish gets comfortable. good luck catching him mine was a real pain.
 
there just sketchy fish , you seem to have done all ya can, cover your overflow or youll be picking him out constiantly
 
update: i removed the blenny and a cherub angel and the jawfish is doing fine, he now made his home at the front left corner of my tank, he doesn't have a cave just has an area he sits where he dug some sand and put some shells around. has anyone ever made a "home" for their jawfish like out of PVC or some other way?
 
I found these pics of an ingenious way to make a "home" for the blue spot from another hobbyist. He used pvc and a barnacle.

You know, I'm not sure. I think he used an actual barnacle shell. But I don't see why an artificial one wouldn't work!
 
Is your tank covered?!?

My jawfish decided to jump one day. I never saw him being harassed by any other fish, so I'm not sure what caused him to jump.

Just something to keep in mind.
 
Blue spots get scared very easily even if not harrased and usually jump as a defense tactic so insure you have your aquarium well covered. Eggcrate will not do as it can jump right thru the holes.
 
just got a question to ask, does they have sand in the pvc then? if this manmade home is working fine, that mean they are able to stay in bb tank as well with one of those 'home' made?

Actually Jdieck jawfish are wanderers. In the ocean they move their burrows frequently depending on water temp, time of year, and availability of sites. I used to collect them and as the water warmed up they moved from the sand near the shallow reefs (about 15-20 ft) to the third reef which is 70 to 80 ft. This happens every year and is quite an impressive move for a small fish. I have watched 7 sp including blue spots and they all tend to move depending on several factors. This is more likely the reason a jawfish that has been in a tank for a while suddenly gets up and moves. In the fish tank they hit a wall and go up and out. that is not to say a fish being harrassed doesn't jump, but an acclimated one may as well.
 
I would not keep it in a bare bottom either. Those fish are accostumed to dig in a place of their liking and often they switch locations as mentioned above by philter4 above.
