"Bonsai Reef" (SPS style)

Well, hopefully this will be the last new tank thread I'll be starting for quite a while. For those who have seen some of my other threads you will know I've been through quite a few tanks in the past year (4 to be exact) due to various reasons (too deep, too shallow, broken cross bar, etc...). Growth of my SPS has been negligible and I've had to frag sections that died off, but I've still managed to keep alive 95% of what I had started with dating all the way back to my 144 half circle. This new tank will be the final destination and now I'll just give everything the needed stability and hopefully all goes well. I've realized that as tempermental as SPS are they are also pretty resilient (at least for a while given the basics). Anyway, I was too lazy to break out the Canon and I'm still learning with the new macro lens (so no close ups). I snapped a couple of cell phone pics just to get this thread going. So here is the new tank in various stages of my lighting cycle:

So choice, I love it!!!

I have been designing "drawing" a bonsai type rock setup for my 105 for a few months now and will be my next endeavor. BB with one "foot" leading to a large tree for frags. Been stock piling tonga branches, etc. for the scape.

Wicked man , i've always wanted to do a bonsai scape.

that is an AWESOME tank!!!!

That's sick!!!!

Looks sweet Todd. Looking forward to see it filled in.

Great looking tank. I look forward to future updates as it grows out.

I love it. Nice work.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. It's been a lot of trial and error with past tanks to finally get the look I wanted along with ease of maintenance. Now it's time to sit back and see how it turns out. Time will tell.

Damn, I thought I was the only one that changed his mind often. Haha. Looks sweet Todd, any tank info?

Ha, some of it was just my own doing, (not being happy with this or that), some of it not, (broken center brace). I'm done for a while. Most of the tank info. is at the bottom of my sig.

very nice, congrats.

any pics on how the rock structure was made ? specially the one on the right.

Allmost, the tank is actually void of any live rock at all. I used the Aqua-tecture's Vida rock (which is actually porous clay, I believe). It was created using what they have listed as "Bonsai shape" and then I used their "Branch shape" structures to add to it.

Thanks tweaked, I've been following your DSA neo 105 build from the start. It's really coming along great.

That really is incredible. I just checked out the vida rocks site and it makes me want to redo my 75 when move it in the near future, lol. Good luck with the tank and I will definitely be tagging along
