Bonsai Tree inspired Aquascape

Bummer again. Don't loose hope though. Our tang injuries might have been about the same then. Mine was living in a sump at the time and got stuck wrapped around the intake guard for the main pump. It had exposed flesh in the pattern of the guard. The skin had been completely stripped away in a few places. My brother, the former owner, was *sure* it was going to kick the bucket.

I'm sorry to hear about the tang. Probably infection is the greatest threat to it now. Might want to medicate it in a separate tank.

Good luck,
James

So sorry to hear about your tang. It may not matter much, but I suspect the fish was already ill when it became trapped on the pump. I realize it's only a very small fish, and I could be wrong about this, but I think a healthy fish would have been able to avoid being sucked onto the pump, or at least escape. In any case, I wish you the best of luck in nursing it back to health. I agree with James that infection is its biggest threat at this point. Garlic-soaked nori may provide some benefit as well. Keep us posted.

So sorry to hear this news.

given your husbandry skills - I would say if anyone can save the guy - you can!

Good luck.

RIP Black Tang

RIP Black Tang

It seems that it's too late, I woke up to a tang laying on it's side breathing twice as heavy then a couple hours later dead. :( The wounds looked pretty bad and I’m sure if it was a full grown adult it would have pulled through or would have been able to get off of the pump on it's own. I doubt it was ill prior to this cause it was eating very well, not thin at all and no ich. I just think it's size and the heavy stress was too much for it. Looks like I would have to stop by my LFS and see what they have to ease my depression right now :(

Well that's what you need to do. Move on!
Just for further reference, after I observed the Black Tang in your pictures you might want to get a better look at the animals prior to purchasing. It seemed to be under weight in the pictures you showed and could have contributed to why is was so easily over powered and sucked onto that pump. It did not have the strength to break free. Just some food for thought.
Also I would quarantine any new additions to your beautiful system for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to adding to your tank. It would really suck if you introduced a sick animal~

congrats on the thread of the month... this is by far of the best and cleanest looking tank I've seen here... :)

Oh man I'm so sorry about your loss. I hope that you got an amazing deal on the black tang as I know that they can be very pricey. Ok I just realized something.... I wonder if Thread of The Month is cursed... Last month T.J (Tswifty) was thread of the month and about half way through the month something happened to him and he had to take down his beautiful 90g reef. Now this month.... about halfway through again and this happens. hmm kinda weird. Kind of like NFL players who are on the cover of Madden (video game) having bad seasons. LoL I sure hope I'm wrong.

Amazing tank!

And for what it's worth - it's either bonsai or banzai - two different words that mean very different things in the Japanese language and neither of which apply to this tank :)

Holanthias borbonius (Blotched Anthia)

Holanthias borbonius (Blotched Anthia)

Well after the big loss of the black tang, I decided to fall back to my original plan of only keeping small schooling fishes and picked up a pair of Japanese deep water Holanthias borbonius (Blotched Anthia).

I caught a picture of my Apogon leptacanthus breeding, i got 3 of them with eggs in their mouth wish i had a way of separating them into a separate breeding tank and give the little fry a chance to live.

I also still have 3 out of 7 Apogon Parvalus going strong and very healthy, i really want to get more of these but the survival odds are to poor. I would have to get 50 and hope for 10 to live
