Bowfront Leaking Track Record

Oceanic 72G RR - 2 year old. No leakage problems at all... but now I'm really paranoid...thanks...

What have you found is the source of the leak? Has anyone received a good reasonable explanation from the manufacturer of why so many of the bowfront tanks leak?

Both of our Oceanic bowfronts - the 90 gal bowfront and the replacement with a 175 gal bowfront have leaked at the silicone seal on the front curve at the bottom of the tank. Is that where everyone else's is leaking also?

bought a brand new 72 gallon bow front...leaked after 2 weeks. took oceanic 3 months to replace the tank. did nothing for my $800 bucks in livestock. or the 1,000$ carpet damage. the tank went from full to empty in about 6 minutes. the whole front bottom seal busted, and made an ocean out of my house. the tank they replaced it with has lasted me a year without a problem, but i will never get another bow front. :(

72 gallon oceanic leaking for the last 2 days. cant contact anyone due to the holidays. losing 10 gallons per day. arg!!!! how fast were yall to get replacement tanks and how did yall transfer everything over to the new tank?

I've had an All-Glass 155g bow front in the past, and now two All-Glass 54g corner tanks. Haven't had any leakers yet. But, over the last year five of the Oceanic 72g bow fronts that we have sold at the store I work for were returned as leakers.

we have a 72 oceanic at the store, it's going on 2 yrs. haven't had any bows come back that i know of. i'd like to see what happens with all the 46 bows that wal-mart sold for $200.

Oh so would I.
I just started this hobby and my wife bought this one for me this Christmas.

Please let's hope this one isn't one of those that is gonna leak.

And I just want to add that this site is been a terrific help to me on setting this all up. There is so much information here.

Wal-Mart 46 Bow

Wal-Mart 46 Bow

We purchased Wal-Mart's $200 46 Bow-Front Tank in December, 2003. Although we are new to this, so far -- so good! :) We have just joined this site and find it extremely informative.
We are going to post pictures of our aquarium in a bit and invite you to see our progress. Hopefully, no leaks here!!!

Just a thought,
how many of the leaking tanks were the owners cleaning their glass with razor blades? I was cleaning my glass one day and realized that if I wasn't careful it was very easy to cut through the silicone with the razor blade. I wonder if this could be causing some of the leaks? especially for the cornes where the mag cleaner does not work effectively.

Hello all,...new guy here,..and new owner of a Oceanic 72 bow front,...jeesh,...was really enjoying this site untill now,.....I hope I have no problems. The water has been in for one week, and no leaks from tank, had a small one from a return line and fixed it tonight. I am worried now,......spent $1400.00 for the stuff now and am only geting started! I knew it was going to cost, but if this baby leaks, that would really bum me out.
Do you think I should back up all silicone before adding mega bucks on my reef?

Greg

26 bowfronts - no problems
7 bowfronts had leaks

I was wondering what type of stands and hoods the leakers have? Did anyone alter the center brace? Also I didn't look to see if they were from the same area, or maybe there was a bad batch in manufacturing at a certain time etc. There could be many different reasons...

Hi JANE,..bought mine in PA. but like I said, one week, no leaks,.and, have Oceanic stand.
My thoughts were the same on the area where bought.
Greg

Don't panic Greg...mines 3 years old and no problems ...and mine is second hand. It was used for one year by the original owner. I just think there are too many things that can vary to just blame "bowfronts" to leak.
