Bowfront Leaking Track Record

Have had Oceanic 75 rectangular for 18 years - abused, dry stored in garage, and moved often with a dolly. Never leaked even though the tank was never level. Bought some used Oceanic 75 rectangulars about 9 years ago from someone who got them as handme downs. They could be older than the one I have. They looked abused when I bought them. Still no leaks. I like those odds better than what everyone is posting. Its a shame because I have always dreamed of having a bowfront. I went to a LFS and talked about an Oceanic 500 gallon. They recommended not buying Oceanic when purchasing the big tanks due to many customers having blowouts or leaks. This sounds like a manufacturing problem that they ignore.

46Gal BF,
3yrs and THANK GOD, no leaks

92 Gallon AGA corner bowfront - heavily leaking on both front corners after 8 months. Slow leak prior to that ( and I just thought it was a *little* salt creep *bonk*)

They were truly great about replacing the tank, I have had the new one for just over a month now.

Have to join the unfortunate crowd here...My 72 g BF leaked from the back corner after about 16-17 months! The LFS replaced it and told me that it probably had to do with what I had it sitting on. I reinforced the weight with a 3/4 in particle board sprayed black, it blends well. I had a 20 g spare, so I was able to save most of my livestock and I put my LR and DSB in aerated Reef Crystal buckets until I could get the new one set up. Hauled in the h2o and started over. I was really nervous and disappointed when it happened and then I started to look at it as a chance to be creative all over again. I've got my fingers crossed, I love my setup now and don't want to have to re-do it again.:mixed:

I've had an Oceanic 72 Bow for almost 3 years. Just noticed that one of the side panels on the front corner is literally moving away from the rest of the tank. I see disaster coming shortly.

72G bowfront for 5 years, no issues, moved a few times also. Only problem is the stand space underneath, it's kinda limited.

Old thread here. I am thinking about a bowfront and now I am not sure. Has anything changed over the years? Are rectangular tanks as prone to leaking? Has anyone else had problems with their bows?

I actually havent heard of them having leaking problems.. 155 gallon bow here and no problems with leaks. Had it for 1.5 years.

I currently have a 155 aga that I've had for 1 yr. and don't expect there to be a problem because most of the tanks I've purchased in the past have been bowfronts. I have a 54 corner thats been set up (untill recently) for 7 years straight, and a 46 for three years. I just love them. My favorite LFS has a full blown 500 gal. bowfront to die for set up for years, I'll take pics sometime to show all. "Don't freek about the leak- It's to hard to sleep".

72G Oceanic bow - set up with water for 4+ years. No leaking problems with the tank itself (I have had water spills due to dumb mistakes, but that's another story...). The stand was carefully leveled in both directions. This is very important!

My Oceanic 90 bf leaked after about a year. I do think that it was my fault though (placed stand on tack strip next to wall like an idiot). It started to warp the tank and began to leak on the left side.

I have a 72 gallon bowfrong AGA-- been up for 4 1/2 years--- no leaks...

I would think twice about a bow front though...

1. the curved glass reflects alot of light from all directions hard to see in the tank.... not a problem if kept in a dark room.

2. Hard to aqua scape-- only the middle section is deep enough front to back.

3. Stand is kind of small for adding a decent sized sump.

I would only consider a bow front if was going to put a tank in a corner.

I still have mine up and full of water but its empty other then some sand and a few pieces of rock... everything else is in my 135g now.

Spuds725- You bring up some good points about the overall size and shape pitfalls of a bow. It almost seems that the leaking problems must have been worked out over the past years.
