Brown dinoflagellates in Sps tanks

Here's some iPhone photo's (horrible quality I apologize)I took about 20 minutes after the siphoning you can already see it reforming. It doesn't look bad right now I literally filtered the whole tank at least once through 100 micron sock using my water change brute container. My poor birdsnest ugh this sucks a**.

Your tank's awesome and mature! Is that a marineland 90? Sounds like I need to grow a set and start dosing 5 ml's a day lol

I can't see dinos from what you've posted. If you shut off your circulation, you should be able to see it forming in the water column. Looks like brown powdery mucus.

I two used hydrogen peroxide, but in combination with a few other things. I had both cyano on the sand bed and dino.

I was at a point where I needed to start over, so I took a risk and

dosed

Hydrogen peroxide
redslime remover
50% water change with sand bed vacuum.
Lights out
wet skimming.
Carbon at the end.

Worked for me and trust me I did everything before hand and nothing worked.
Dinos are nasty. But make sure thats' what you have and not a form of cyano. I know you said it's not cyano earlier.

I had nothing to lose except for the rest of my live stock, which wasn't much compared to what I lost one the course of a few weeks. I do recall my Ponape was one of the first corals to go.

good luck.

It's for sure Dino's its little brown dots/dust in mucus like you described. Thanks for giving me hope Deeznutz. I'm doing to diluted 4ml's in tank water and drop it in the sump while praying to holy reef God lol. I totally plan on doing progression photos and updates for anyone suffering from this.

Deeznutz: did you notice your skimmer overflow from the addition peroxide?

I through out my time with this hobby had dino a few times. The best long term cure I found were blacking the system for 5 days or more if you dare. I did it a week and use dinoxal. I have tried this solution on 2 different systems and had no loss. I have tried a lot of other products against dino and they didn't really work. I can recommend dinoxal if you can get a hold of it.

Just to update the H202 dosing I had some crazy polyp extension last night and this morning everything seemed happy, the red dragon looks a lot better than it has since the Dino's started! Maybe it's the increased oxygen levels and the alkalinty stayed stable.

From what others have told me and reading about it you typically do it for 7-14 days on a daily dosage 1ml for 10 gallons of actual what volume. I'm going off those guidelines. I took the time to go through a 40 page ********* thread and most did the intitial 7-14 treatment day and didn't have to dose again.

Indeed you got dinos from your description. There is hope. I couldn't get rid of it until I did everything all at once. Now I don't suggest it as I was giving up anyways and didn't care with the outcome.

I believe I was dosing hydrogen for a week before hand and never had my skimmer overflow. Only when I dosed the redslime remover did it over flow.

I honestly think the redslime removed got rid of both. It was the only new thing I've tried over the 5 week battle.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Hey Deeznutz I have another question for you if you don't mind, as you progressed through the treatment did the Dino's seem to shift to a darker brown and look more stringy? I've noticed this already I'm hoping these could be positive signs. It also appears to me they aren't generating as fast. Let me know what you think thanks. -Addison

Update

Update

Happy late thanksgiving everyone! I just want to update for anyone who's following or interested. I dosed for 4 days skipped 2 days for the holiday and I starting to dose again tonight. I must say they seem to be decreasing on the bottom and rocks. One thing I have noticed though is the glass is starting to a Dino film. This weekend I'm going to do more manual removal. On another note I got new xm 10k's and super actinics :)

To be honest, I'm not too sure. That part of my reefing history is pretty fuzzy now. I've chosen to not remember those times. lol

With that said, it looks like you're on the right track.

Just an update, I'm still dosing h202 almost everyday with better color in my Sps. The Dino's are almost non existent at this point other than a few small patchs on the small amount of sand I have left. Surprisinglyy mangroves are still budding new leafs. My p04 is at .08 ppm according to the Hanna checker which is pretty good going on the 4 weeks without a water change. I may throw some rowaphos in a reactor if it's going to take longer, I guess I have another question about h202. If it's just a oxygen molecule what's the risk long-term?
