brown sps

I don't know why, but despite weekly water changes, running rowaphos and carbon, running chaeto fuge and undetectable nitrates and phosphates my purple, red, blue, dark green sps turn brown. Corals with great color are: Orange monty digitata, red and green apple monty caps, sunset monty, yellow fiji leather, green slimer
My lights as of october are 3 radions in a 150g tank, previously ATI PM 8x80w. brown with ati also.
kH9-10
pH7.9-8.02
ca 450 (I use calcium reactor)
Mg 1240
I use salifert to measure Ca and Mg, nitrate
Hana phosphate and Kh meter

I have trouble with blues and purples too. Seems like your parameters are on point, my guess would be lighting, but 3 Radions should be enough. Maybe they just nees a little more time since you recently switched lighting.

I know my browned corals took months to recover after browning. With blues and purples, I put them up high and blast them with light to maintain color. When I put them too low, they turned brown.

My two cents. Good luck.

I had a similar problem when switching lighting...I supplemented extra Magnesium and Potassium...and started using Replenish (Brightwell). It took awhile but all my colors pop now...hope that helps.

Can you post a couple of photos:
1. Showing a few SPS corals.
2. A clean shot of your rock/sand ie a rock that is sitting on the sand bed.

Also, what is your NO3 and PO4 - especially PO4?

Lastly, how often do you feed your fishes etc?

I would say you should double check your test kits as having 0 phosphates and nitrates with those test kits is pretty unlikely. What is your SG? Do you run carbon to offset the leather? What is your TDS at? Since your lighting should be adequate, it must be a water quality issue. I'd raise that mag a bit as well. I prefer it greater than 1400.

I use a Hanna test kit for phosphates and even if I did have nitrates and phosphates I wouldn't know what else to do to get rid of them. My tds is zero, I replaced all filters in RODI in November. Sg 1.025 and yes I run carbon. What would the 2 leathers be doing to the sps?

If you have some phosphates and nitrates, you could do carbon dosing to reduce the levels. Levels of 0 seem unattainable in my tank, and may actually be detrimental. Many have had success decreasing PO4 and NO3 with biopellets, I did not and got a bunch of cyano from them. TDS of 0 is great, SG is also great. The leathers may use alleopathy and give off chemical toxins that inhibit growth of nearby corals, thus helping to compete for space on the reef. Carbon will remove it in your tank.
I experienced browning when going from 8x54W T5 to AI sols. It lasted a month or two until my corals acclimated and my intensity levels were increased. You mentioned that you had browning prior to the switch to the Radions. Is it any better, worse, or the same? How is growth? Is it stunted?

I ran biopellets before and I think depleted too many nutrients so I took it off line. I ended up with stn and lost coral. What happens with carbon dosing when I'm gone for a week or two? Does it rebound? What's a good starting point for 150g?

Hi, my blue coral turn brown after 2 week after I have buy it. Before the coral was with a MH light. Now, mine, it's led. Now it getting greener, less brown... Will he recover is blue color soon ?

Thanks
