I just got a couple of them to replace my TLF that I have grown to hate.
How full can I fill them. They are a little small for my tank so I want to get as much as possible but didn't know if I could put to much in. I will be running one with carbon and one with GFO.
Are you using the Maxijet 1200, which BRS recommends with their reactors, or a different pump?
the reason I ask is I use the dual BRS reactors as well with GFO in one and carbon in the other. Mine is nowhere near that full and I basically get a trickle out of the return line with the ball valve wide open when using the MJ 1200.
I have a mj something (came with the tank) that I will start with. I would like to plumb them off my return at some time.
I don't have them hooked up yet so I will have to see. I was hoping to run them both off the same feed just not inline like the dual is so I can adjust the flow to each canister.
the issue with plumbing them off your return is that if you pass water over the carbon and gfo to fast then the affect won't happen. The reason they suggest the MJ1200 is so that it doesn't force the water through the system faster than the system will do its job.
i have a dual and a single running on one mj1200, the output is very slow with the valves wide open and each chamber filled less than half way. I wonder sometimes if it needs more flow.
One is not looking for high flow through the BRS reactors. It's all about the tumble. Getting the gfo to tumble at the right rate. Little to no tumble results in a solid block of gfo. Too much tumble (too high flow) results in too many "fines" or small pieces of gfo breaking off from the pellets as they rub against each other. BRS has a video on their site showing the appropriate tumble rate / motion.
What I was trying to find out was how full can I fill them???? I am aware of the flow issues.
sslak,
I have had problems with the tlf spitting carbon and gfo into my tank. I'm sure its something I did. The other thing I don't like about them is they are hard to maintain and the plumbing on them is not as solid as I would like.
The brs reactors have a removable cartridge like an ro/di unit and I think its much easier to maintain. They also have much better and solid connectors and all around plumbing. I could strongly recommend you look at them. I think the cost is about the same.
the TLF reactor (hated that thing) is poop compared to the BRS.
Love my BRS dual. Soooo much easier to deal with and the build quality/design is much better.
The MJ1200 is dialed down a bit to get the correct tumble.
And as far as how much you can fill, I'm assuming you can fill as much as you want as long as you have some space for the tumble of gfo.
But I would double check with brs directly.
