Bryopsis possible solution

Bryopsis possible solution

Great article on a possible solution for bryopsis. All of you reefers that put their tanks on display to try to solve this problem, thank you, job well done. I will also be starting the treatment when my order arrives. I have tried the high mag. without success and now there's proof that fluconazole works and hopefully cures the problem once and for all.

I'm curious what the effects of this are on the zooxanthellae in the corals. No one seems to be reporting any issues, which is great. It was just a thought I was having in regards to using this as part of a coal qt program.

It will likely kill off your macro.

It's already clearly been posted in the thread that this will kill basically any and all algae, macro or micro. it stops production of cellular walls in the algae.

i know its alot of pages now guys, but if you re-read the bulk of the first few pages, it will answer every question that has been re-asked here in the last page and a half.

not trying to be rude, but please try not to clutter the thread, lets try to keep it as updates and pertinent new information. links to where to get the drug are posted, aswell as dosing instructions from a few different people.

As for me, I've left my LED lights on most of the time for my dose. My thickest portion of where bryopsis was, is almost entirely gone ( its the last remaining bryopsis ), but there's still a tiny patch that's holding on, its been getting better day by day, so hopefully it just needs time to break down.

Hoping that my leds don't actually have too much UV and ended up breaking down the medication or something. I've only been running them for 2-3 hours a day to see if it helps with the last tiny patch.
Unless I've read these threads wrong, which may be the case, the o ly algae it seems to have an effect on bryopsis. Unfortunately.

Is this a typo?

I thought the dose was 150mg per 30liters (7.9gals)

65gals ÷ 7.9gals = 8.22 x 150mg = 1233mg

Thank God it's a typo and not a miscalculation - meant to say 1,500mg. Shot for the midpoint between the two dosages (higher dose was around 2,300mg at 9mg/L)

it wiped out everything in my tank, but i use a scrubber and not macro algae for export. so i didn't have much macro to begin with.

I would err on the side of caution no matter what because I'm sure it will still do damage to whatever algae is in the system.

I am totally free from bryopsis after 18 days treatment. Nothing was turned off during that period. All equipment runs normally. Feeding and dosing continues as well. I started with of 600mg, another 300mg on second day, and last dosage after 4th day of another 300mg, totalling 1200mg instead of 1350mg as recommended. Turns white on 6th day, loosing feathers on 8th day, reduced to stalk on 10th day, totally gone on 18th day. All inhabitants and corals survived. I found out those under shades survived longer. Under full intensity, they died and melted on the 10th day. Here are some crappy smartphone pictures :D

I'm trying this out myself. Today is my first day of dosing. Let's hope 18 days from now it's wiped out!

After 13 days I am officially 100% bryopsis free, I am so happy. I posted this thread aswell as all the info to my local FB groups and hopefully it can help someone else out before they go crazy and break down their tanks to break free from this plague.

Ive been following this thread since near the beginning. Im using Vibrant right now, so Im going to hold off. I have some stubborn pieces in my tank. I've dosed the vibrant 4 times in 2 weeks so far and it doesnt look affected.

What Im curious about with this treatment is the long term.. Im wondering if it will rear its ugly head or just stay gone... Only time will tell!

This seems to good to be true. I think this post is made up just to screw with me! It better not be because I am not in the mood for that right now. I am going to run a test on one rock in a qt tank. What is the exact pill used for those that had success? It better work or else! Thank you if it does.

Mine has been gone since December. I have lots of SPS, a decent collection of LPS, GSP, pipe organ, zoas, chalices, montiporas, mushrooms, snails, urchins, and 6 fishes all survived and never show any issues during the treatment. If i have to take out all rocks and cook it, throw away all waters and start over, i would say goodbye to this hobby.

What exact pill did you use Dj? You have a pic on the bottle?

I can't remember the brand, but it is in a capsule, 150mg each, 4 capsules per strip. It only cost me roughly USD3.50 per strip. Obtainable off the counter without prescription. I asked the pharmacist and she told me that fluconazole has been used to fight algae in freshwater aquarium for so long.
