BTA split!!!

Didn't mean to be sarcastic. Sorry to use the word "b------a" on a post. Ron warned me about that - won't do it again.
Serious question - Do you guys keep anemones in full-blown reef tanks? It seems anemones should/would be kept in specialty anemone tanks. I'd love to keep a bubbletip in my reef, but I'm afraid they'll get caught in overflows or powerheads, kill corals, etc.
And yes - I use certain acronyms on a regular basis - guilty as charged.

my anemone got stuck in a powerjet and I had to clip part of the plastic filter away, I thought for sure it would have killed it, it seemed to be in bad shape, and stupid me, I kept it out of the water forever working with it not even thinking (duh) but the next day it looked great! I was so relieved.

Mine has never moved. I even moved the rock where I wanted it to go.

I kinda wish my carpet would find it's way into a powerhead. I wouldn't even have it but it was given to me.

Carpets can be notorious killers. I had a large green carpet 20+ years ago so venomous that the dealer was stung by the net he caught it in - the next day! I'm not making this up - the nematocysts were still alive (and dangerous) in the net after being out of the water more than 12 hours later.
Anyway, I'd really be interested in the observations of others who have experience with bubbletips. It's one thing to read about something, another to hear from those who have walked the walk.

I don't feed the bubble. The carpet likes scallops. I've tried alot of other foods but it never reacts like it does for scallops... and fish... and shrimp...

I feed my anemones a little chunck of shrimp once a week, but I am going to get some squid or something else too, I also feed the tank zooplex once or twice a week. Its just me, I don't know exactly what I'm doing yet though :)

frozen krill or I go to wal-mart and get frozen shrimp and scallops and chop them up to feed the anemone

I don't think anyone does. I know I don't.

I've noticed folks buy seafood for their critters. I'm going to post a new thread on a seafood place in Huntington where you can buy just about anything you need.

To answer your question Mary, yes I kept it under halides and it did great, however it did change color like you described.

Cover any powerhead intakes with foam. If happy they shouldn't roam anyway. I've had some problem lately with them stinging corals 'cause they are taking up so much room but usually just keep things out of their way. Several are going to be taking a nice ride in the country to visit Uncle Jim or Uncle Ron soon

BTW - what do you guys feed your anemones?
My experience only and with healthy e. quads only.
Under halides nothing.
PC or VHO silversides, thawed mysis cubes, krill or blender mush 3 times a week. Mainly mush.
If one is bleached I'd feed heavily with silversides or mysis no matter what the lighting.

Split again. I am going to have my own anemone field soon!
Sounds like you're headed that way :)

I managed to trade 12 of mine this spring but it's about time for them to split again.

I don't do anything. It's under 640w of VHO, about 1/2 way down. 2 false perc clowns host. I am sure they take a little bit of food to the anemones but I never feed the anemones directly.

I guess mine just doesnt want to. I feed it cut up shrimp or fish every week. It also has a maroon clown which hosts on it and takes it food sometimes.

Reef don't worry about it to much my RBTA is over 3 years old now and has never split, but others from the same batch have twice or more now :)

I think having a clown hosting in it will help it split. Also they seem to split when they are stressed. I have heard you can usually make them split if you feed them heavily for about a month then stop for a week or so.
