BTA split!!!

I awoke today to my bta pulled backa little in the rocks. I figured great, something else is wrong. I've had a bit of bad luck with the tank lately. (cyno, wafer algae, coral wars, new tang aggression, etc)

But when I looked closer there were 2 anemones! I am not sure how many generations this thing is now. I know mine is a clone of Phil's. I think a couple of us have clones from where ever the original is. Any of you know who has it?

Anyways, had to share the happy event.
 
I don't think you can get one from philjess without having it split eventually. LOL I know mine did
 
Well, mine wont be splitting anymore. It was the only cassualty when I moved my corals to my new tank.
 
Are y'all talking about a bubble tip anemone? If so, why not say so? Folks, remember, beginners use forums like these to gain insight from those who have "walked the walk." Please beware of acronyms known only to the more experienced - they bewilder the novice and discourage the neophyte.

I had that happen and the clone moved over and killed my prized colt (see gallery).. then months after it started to move up and ended up brushing against my sps... I had to break a piece of the rock apart and get rid of it. Now, the other one is doing the same thing... don't know if I can wait to set up my 125...

btw.. BTA is a VERY common anacronym on this website... and in the FAQ sections there is a huge breakdown of common anacronyms for the newbies...
 
I must agree with you - we should make the newbies work for info. After all, why should we just give away what we've learned? For that matter, there should be a charge to answer any question. When I'm cleaning aquariums at accounts, if anyone asks me a question, I always say, "Bananas to you, if you want me to answer that, you gotta come up with the cash!" That keeps the great unwashed from daring to venture into my hobby. The fewer who get into reefing, the better!
 
no, but as I did and most people else did on this board, they have to learn where to go to find things.. or ask questions... no big deal.. no one is trying to keep anything from anyone.. but at the same point, it is much easier to use a common anacronym than to type everything out... :rolleyes:
 
Actually, I never noticed the FAQ, I was depending on the info that I was reading just from all of you guys, and I was so very confused with the BTA and the SPS and LPS, I felt like I would never know and wanted to just give up. It is difficult being new and felling so stupid anyway, and when you see everyone reponding and knowing what they are talking about it just makes you feel like, "whats the sense, I will never learn all of this" It's certainly nothing to offend anyone over, I think this forum is so wonderful, it just takes a while to learn some of the things more expierenced reefers take for granted. It's all good! :)
 
hmm... I see what you are saying, but if you go into the New to the Hobby forum on here, everything is there.. its a great place for beginners to go. There is a lot of "forum speak", but heck, all you have to do is ask. And PM if you don't want to ask in front of everyone in the thread...

It's green. I was so excited about my one split this morning and looking through some other threads I saw people with 10 or more!!
 
I hope mine will do that sometime, it is so huge now, has grown so much, the mouth on it is really big. I've never seen on that looked so healthy. I will certainly let everyone know if it does split. Congrats on the new baby! :)
 
IF you want your anemones to split, from what I understand, you begin to feed them everyday for a period of time (three weeks to month) and then stop... of course they say that shifts in PH or salinity can cause this as well, but I would definately not recommend that..
 
mine was fed for several weeks, then decided to go for a walk. I could not get to it to feed it for about 2 weeks, (in the rocks) finally it came out to where I could feed it again. It split on the third day after I started feeding it again.
 
By the way philjess did you ever keep yours under MH lighting.
Since I have gotten my MH setup, the one that is out where I can see it has turned a pinkish orange color

Grrr or not. Quick head count at least 20 entacmaea quadricolor right now.
Several live in the same caves so they're hard to count.
Looks like one split in the last couple days too.
