Building 1600 Gallon Bioshock Themed Octopus Tank

+1 more pics! :bounce2:

From an engineering point of view, I have my doubts about this project. But I want to see it completed & functioning!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE video record while filling the tank!

Also take precise measurements empty and when full to see if there is any flexing.

I hope you sanded very well between layers..as polyester resin cures it releases wax that prevents subsequent layers from adhering properly...

Normal laminating resin should NOT contain wax and wipe over with acetone between layers should be sufficient. You also want to leave it no more than 24hrs between layers to ensure the bond between layers is chemical rather than mechanical.
Saves clogging up tons of sand paper with tacky resin

There was a comment posted by OP on their need to save up for large acrylic panels that immediately put me in patience mode on this one, not that I don't know how that goes, it may be a while to see end results.

I always enjoyed the story of the Spruce Goose haha We wouldnt be where we are today if risks werent taken and the limits of the possible weren't pushed! The Spruce Goose did fly after all :)

really weird that I happened to read this thread today, as just minutes ago I read about HH and the spruce goose again..............

I apologize as I missed that comment, I surely understand the money issue scenario.

While I do agree with your statement; I was just saying in a sense that an entire home can be built in less time haha

I'll be patiently waiting I suppose

as Dave said this is a Hobby project and it seems he is building this a bit at a time with spare money.

Not to mention I am thinking not to be Rude but be its not your place nor mine to judge how long he takes to build it..

I Have been building a green house behind our house for 4 years and still do not even have the roof on it..I am using left over treated lumber from when i build decks for customers..I have the money to just go buy the stuff to do it but well We are in no hurry..

I just finished with the fiberglassing. It took a while to make perfect! I just have to do one final sanding, coat in epoxy and finish with marine paint. ill update photos once i paint it. Yeah, the aquarium has been a side project since other projects in the home have been a priority. You kinda have to decide what you would rather have at a given time: a completely redone home or a finished aquarium. That being said no one wants it finished more than me but the hard part is finally done so at this point its just saving up for the acrylic panels and building the sump. I appreciate all of your patience! My finish date is this spring :)

Not judging, merely asking.
