BUILDING A DREAM....SPS Dominated Tank build

Beautiful new colony! congrats :)
I think an FTS would be nice :D

Wow, I wouldn't have never guessed the goby's position, just watch out he doesn't put stress on your acro and kill it.

 Cheers Juan
Thanks for the compliments! Always an encouragement for me :)

Yea lol :D even me I accidentally found him when I was reviewing that pic. He is quite tiny, and he is under watch hope the lil guy won't start chomping off on my coral :uzi:
I love these lil guys. If my SPS flourishes, I will get different species of these coral gobies available, coz I find these fishes to have a lot of personality. I did have the green and also the yellow variety in my old reef tank setup and they did not harm the corals and infact after few months would start darting towards the food during feeding time!
The yellow coral goby was more outgoing :) he used to be comfortable sitting on the LPS too as if sunbathing under the halides of my older tank. :smokin:
But maybe I was just lucky they dint turn against the coral, there is always the risk hmm so if at all il be adding any coral gobies then il do it only if my SPS are doing well and they have established.
Pretty cool fishes!

Im sorry Noob, it was early and the picture you posted with the fish acclimating looked like an urchin in there with them! I have this issue where until about 9:30am or 3 cups of coffee, my eyes are very blurry and unable to focus...guess im gettin old! lol

Everything looks great man, the acros do seem a bit overly pastel but im sure they look different in reality so you know best in that regard. Keep up the great work and it sure seems like you have quite a great selection of coral to pick from in your neck of the woods! Lucky!

Oh and I agree, I feel a FTS is in order!

Hi Chris,
Lol what ya told me reminds me of the lens of my new camera, it's the same I'm figuring out to get the best focus and still I feel it's blurry. Maybe I should give it some coffee and try after 9:30 :fun2:
If I take an FTS with my old camera and post it, its gonna be sooo blurry, then everyone viewing it will think they are on pot or something

Im bit vary of getting an urchin, man I don't wanna get spiked by them. I did find some colorful ones though.
Everytime I put my hand inside a tank I'm like imagining something is gonna pull me right into it, maybe I watched too many monster and shark movies  That's the reason why I hate crabs in my tank. You never know which tiny crab has been exposed to some sorta radiation and grow in crabzilla:eek1:

Thanks for the compliments :)
Yup the camera makes it look washed out, it's coz these 2 corals are high up on the pillar, too much light reflecting off it on the pic.

FTS soon, I'm almost there. :D

lol, hey im sure some of us ARE on pot anyways, so why not!

Is there anyway that you can prop up some things to make a makeshift tripod? If not, I have found that if your camera has an antishake setting, sometimes having it off actually makes a less blurry image...another tip is to zoom in all the way on whatever your photographing then back it out slowly until the camera autofocuses, then back it out a touch further. Seems to work well for me. manually focusing isnt really an option if you arent using a tripod. Do you have a way to snap the pic without touching the camera? Im lucky that I have a remote control for mine, only bad part is that the sensor is on the front of the camera so I have to keep the lense far enough off the glass to allow me to slip the remote in there. lol

Just keep takin pics, youll get it. Whats up with the new camera? You not using it?

Hi Chris...thanks for the input....
The camera i am using currently is pretty geriatric :D doesnt have any anti shake or any of that features.
Yes i agree a tripod will be a good addition....will work on that. Il try the technique you suggested :)

Hm about the new camera its nicely tucked away in its original packaging :D....this weekend il be doing the test rounds.... just dint have the time to do the practicing....need some mental focus and then some manual focus :strange:

Update...

Must be shrimp season! Like I said in my thread, I have read lots on reef shrimps and I guess theyre pretty sensitive to acclimation. FYI. Love those guys! It was a tough call between the fire and the cleaner for me. Ive lost two fires before for no reason, just poof gone without a trace, so I went with the cleaner. Hope he does well for you, cant beat their antics!

Nice fire shrimp, really nice colors on those, but as stated by Chris above, I had one fire too and lost it, my cleaner is doing great as of two months ago, he is the only shrimp in the tank though. :)

Hi Chris.
I have kept cleaners and fire shrimp before. As you said cleaners have proved to be more hardy and more outgoing than the fire shrimps. Fire shrimps are more courageous when in larger numbers, otherwise quite cryptic. Iv had fire shrimp in my old tanks, and iv seen them cleaning fish on rare occasions. But fire shrimps are very shy compared to the skunk shrimp. They never come out to greet my hand when in the tank :D where as the cleaners are always ready to give a hand shake and pinch my arm and always stealing food.
I got 2 fire shrimps this time and they are in tank after a 2 hour drip accl. Hope they will do OK, and if they do well il get few more. Iv also seen if they are not same sizes the bigger of them will get kinda aggressive with the smaller one. Shy but aggressive fellas:headwalls:

Hiya Juan :)
Yup the fire shrimps are very shy guys. Though I had them in my old tank about 1 year, I'm not sure of their long term survival rate. Unlike the skunk cleaners who reaches out for their food, the fire shrimp waits/needs the food to reach them lol so feeding em is a task!

WOW noob, look at the PE on those puppies! Even during acclimation! Nice colors too. Is that a prostrata on the left? Or a mille? Cant wait to see everything situated in the tank. Those shrimp ought to give a nice pop of color! I like cherry barbs in my plant tanks for the same effect. Awesome finds! Boy id love to see your LFS. Get some pics next time you go!

Hi Chris,

The one on the right is a green mille and the one on the left is a blue hued acro (most likely a prostrata)
The mille did show good PE during accl..that too in the dark....beats me why? Maybe hungry? Hope its not a sign of something bad to happen to it :fun2:

I took the pic with flash, the Mille looks exactly same as in the pic , but the Acro though looks light purple in the pic, its more of a bluish hue....now il be hunting for a purple Acro.
One of my reefing goals is to grow out a big colony of blue and purple Acro :)

The shrimps and the SPS frags are in the DT now...will post some pics...for a better ID...im not an expert on ID :D

The fire shrimps are doin ok and hanging out below the rock overhangs (no big surprise!)I went to get the camera to get some pics of these guys and when i got back they went into hiding...maybe they got some 6th sense regarding paparazzi ...dang fire :furious: shrimps.

NICE, I think a FTS is in order to commemorate this occasion! Looks like your tank is maturing nicely!

Yep chris..i hear ya :)
Had been trying to take some FTS with my old camera...as expected ....crappy :D

So had my new cam out and did some test shots....see below...
FTS once the lights turn on and il have the cam out for a trial run. The cam has settings that sound Greek to me ISO, Aperture, Manual, Auto, DMF,AF, IF,Anti Blur, WB....*** :D sooo trying out and need to hit the "jackpot setting" for better tank pics...
