BUILDING A DREAM....SPS Dominated Tank build

Oh and to your vortech question. It is dependant on how close it is to the top of the tank. If you have it midway down, itll just push and pull water without showing it much on the surface.if you put it up higher itll push a wave across the tank.

Thanks Chris.
Got it. :)
So il hang on to the Korallias a while longer to get some surface agitation, while the Vortech does it's job transporting nutrients.
Iv noticed my sand bed looks cleaner since iv added the MP40.
Wish there was a setting which automatically changes modes at particular times of the day that would be cool. Am I asking for too much :D
I like the NTM setting. But I feel have to try out the other settings and let it run for few days and see how it helps or doesn't help at all.

What do ya all guys do? U find the best mode for the tank and leave it as it is? Or do you guys keep changing modes/intensity etc routinely?

If you connect it to an Aquacontroller with the WXM, you can program to have different modes throughout the day. That's how I have mine operating. Otherwise I think I would do Reef Crest during day then night mode.
If you can get something like an Apex with the WXM it's pretty cool. I can't remember if you ever mentioned which controller you have.
Chris

Nah, id guess most of us play with them here and there...uh...I mean change settings just to change them and get more bang for the buck! I love the NTM but it is a bit harsh for some of my tanks inhabitants. It routinely knocks things over or blows sand onto the LPS I have on the sand. Im surprised it doesnt mess with your giant LPS...the flushing is pretty laminar and really blows hard in my tank but I guess having extra length in the tank makes a lot of difference there. Mine hits the glass and shoots back hard towards the pump.

That said, NTM is still my favorite mode but I leave it in RC most of the time just for noise reasons. Long pulse is also another really effective program. I too wish ecotech would combine a few of the programs into one and or change the program randomly

Hello there Chris...
Thanks a lot for the advice. I sure will try it out the Reef crest mode and see how it works out for my tank.
Hm controller I haven't got any but Profilux is high on my wish list.
Either a Profilux 2 or 3. Planning on it.

Thanks for visiting :)

Here's to vortech coming out with a firmware update

Hi bro...
So ur using the Reef crest mode. I need to try it out.
I guess you are right, length does play an important part.
The flow doesn't affect my LPS or sand, mainly coz of the height iv kept the pump and the orientation of the Korallias is helping too I guess. If I raise it more looks like there won't be much flow along the sand bed. I havent dialed up the Vortech to the max. It's bout 70% power. One things certain a single MP10 for sure will be underpowered for my tank. Otherwise il need multiple MP10s.*
I'm not seeing that back and forth movement of the polyps which the Vortechs create in some tanks. That's what I am gonna aim for.*
I still don't think there is enough flow behind the "tripod" rock scape and overall decreased flow along the lower 3rd of the back side glass pane. This I feel is not due to the pumps but due to the scape. That's the only place detritus is seeming to collect and also got a small patch of turf algae growing which I feel is a tell tale sign of poor flow in those areas.*
This does make me realize it's not only the pump that matters but a planning of the scape and pump positions well in advance to get that "all around the tank" water movement. And also leave room for modifications in future when corals grow out coz flow requirements will change. So it's a challenge. :headwalls:

you got that right. Its hard to find that perfect balance of aestetics and utility. I struggle with that as well since my rock work is so tall to the left of the tank. I really should knock it down but I dont wanna! Its my tank and ill do what I want! lol

Yeah, I also dont get a lot of back and forth unless I put it on long pulse like I have it today. If I dial it in just right, once the water pushes across the tank and back the next pulse pushes the water in reverse. Its neat really. They just take fiddling.

Even i dont wanna disturb my rock work :D
Looks like i need to spend more time with Vortech!

Quit it, your making me want a Vortec now.

There is a saying in the hood.. "If you don't know.... you betta' ask somebody!!" LOL... these things are awesome Bro!.. I added a third to my system a few weeks ago.. scored it for 250 from a local reefer..

shame on you Jonathan, its you betta acks sumbody! lol

Oh and I meant to ask you in your thread where the second vortech went. I noticed you only had one on the left side of your tank. I figured you put the other behind the rockwork or sold it since you got those seaswirls. Then I saw you had one on each side of the tank like you said you didnt want to do! Thats why I sold my mp10 when I got the 40, I wouldve put it on the side I didnt want a pump on! We cant help outselves can we? lol

LMAO!!! True...True!

Two are now on the left and one on the rear right-hand side.

My plan was to add one eventually but Im still ploting a way to sneak it past my wife. Finding one for $250 might make it easier,LOL.

RN.... you sir are out of line. Shame. LOL!! Brett, I will keep an eye out for your from my end as well.

My feelings are hurt now, why cant a guy be cool with just Tunze's anymore. LOL

Well Brett...who said you arent cool?
Guys with Tunze are cool....just that guys with Vortech are cooler :beachbum:

Peace...juz kidding!! Guess it doesnt matter what you have, it all comes down on how you use it... no pun intended :spin3:

Cheers
