Buried!

I guess I must have ticked of my maroon clown pair, because the female just put a extra 4 inches of sand on my LTA! I am more used to them sand fanning than the opposite. I assume the anemone will unbury itself- I guess if it hasn`t by morning I will unbury it. I Have had the LTA for longer than I can remember, so I think i am going to put a 4 inch piece of 4in pvc pipe around it to keep the fanning down. Anyone else do the collar for sand retention?

The PVC will work, or I've seen a lot of people use a bowl. And usually sand dwelling anemones can dig them selves out quite well.

I would keep an eye on them. I had a mated pair of Clarkiis that would dig around my S. Haddoni, to the point where the anemone was moving all the time. I fixed it by selling the clowns.

will do Todd- I have excommunicated many a clown for being too jerky- I am more of a anemone fan than clown fan.

For what it's worth, sand anemones can bury themselves if they wish - we just don't see it very often in aquariums because most people don't have very deep sand beds. Believe it or not, for sand anemones I often think that a buried anemone = a happy anemone It's when they WON'T dig in, and instead keep letting go of the substrate and floating around the tank that I worry about them.

Agreed- I would rather have a foot on the glass under the sand than the float around. This one has walked on occasion from clown hassle- but never detached. The good news is he digs the PVC collar- and the female is accepting it well or some reason. It might be because it looks like a good spot for more eggs!
