butterflies in reefs

Does anyone know If a longnose butterfly can be kePt with softies ? I got zoas, hammers, a torch coral and some polys ... ? anyone with experience on this matter?
Sorry if it's already been answered.. Theres 23 pages in this thread

My Australian copperband grudgingly eats frozen mysis and brine, but it really likes blackworms so hopefully your muelleri will go for them with gusto.

Now if only my Pakistani would start eating properly. It only picks at the bottom and objects in the QT. It has eaten a few bites from the water column, but not much and it has been a week now.

Also, what kind of scallops have you tried? My butterflies definitely prefer scallops with a more yellow tint, which can vary with the large "diver" scallops, but tends to be common with the small "bay" scallops.

The stores in Tucson dont have a great selection of sea food. I went to Albertsons tonight and they had some clams but no variety to choose from. So far he's not showing any interest in them. I planned on getting some scallops too but they were pretty sad looking. All the ones Ive seen have been pretty white in color but Ill look out for some with more of a yellow color. I heard one of the asian markets has a great selection, so maybe Ill try there. Thanks again for you tips Peter.

Hopefully the black worms will be a hit tomorrow, Ill let you know. Good luck with getting your Pakistani to eat better, they are really beautiful fish.

I have every coral you just mentioned with my longnose. No issues. Longnoses are about as safe as you are going to get with butterflies.

Thanks for the reply. Great news !!! I hope the one I get doesn't end up being one of that do eat corals.. I'm going to try to add him before I add any other fish since I know they are non aggressive

Nice Brett,

Mine eats fresh shrimp, scallops, & red neck clams & mussels. I buy everything fresh & then freeze it. When I'm ready to feed I chop it into bite size pieces.

Would a 60 gal cube be large enough to showcase a pair of Declivis or Mitratus? Tank will be SPS mostly, with perhaps a blenny and shrimp goby.

What do you think, large enough?

I can't speak for the Mitratus since I don't have one (YET!).

However,

Depending on the dimensions and rock work layout it could work. The pair would have to be the only fish of real appreciable size in the tank though (Blennies and Shrimps gobies should be ok with them).

I have my Declivis in a 100 Gallon Cube w/ a very open arrangement as far as rock work goes. I have 3 large pillars, and faux rock wall on the back 2 sides. He seems to be doing just fine.

aquaph, fantastic looking muelleri!
Thanks Lemon. My favorite fish so far for sure.

Thanks man, he started eating a little mysis yesterday but I havent had much interest in anything else yet. Was yours pretty shy at first? Seems to be getting better everyday.

Of definitely! I'm sorry I forgot to suggest this first!

No problem Peter, Ive been meaning to try out a certain market for a while now. The grocery stores seem to be pretty seasonal around here. Sometimes they have a great selection and sometimes they have next to nothing. My black worms came yesterday but I didn't get much interest in them. Ill try again today.

the muelleri has done a complete 180 today and is eating like a pig. I fed with the lights out this time, do you guys think he may still be adjusting to the lights or is just settling in. I fed black worms and mysis this morning and he ate everything.

Funny story, I put my black worms in the little beer fridge in the garage and went out and found them frozen this morning, OOPs!!! They dont seem to mind it, LOL.

Mine was never really skittish in the beginning..........I started him on Hikari mysis & within the first week he was eating all the raw seafood I mentioned.

Even chunks that are too big will get ripped apart & swallowed. You can hear their mouths snapping when they rip up the food.

Perfect description. Kinda freaked me out when I first heard the noise coming from my marginalis when he was eating.

Some bad news to report about the YLN butterflies. They've discovered that they can stick their entire snout down into the mouth openings of my favorite lobo and eat, I'm guessing, any gut contents that may be in there. The logo hasn't looks happy for a while now, and I couldn't figure out why, since the fish don't ever nip at it. Then I caught them, when the lights were out, doing this. I was pretty shocked to find a YLN butterfly shoved into a lobo...literally forehead touching flesh

Sorry about your Lobo's Peter. Muelleri is finally coming out of the corner and begging for food. Hes eating really well still so I may go ahead with a prazi treatment soon. My biggest fear now is introduction to the DT and how my other fish are gonna act.
