Butterflytown - 240 FOWLR

I hope I'm not too late to save the anthias.
You should try to soak their food in epsom salt.

I have no experience with this but
There are also videos on youtube that teach you how to use a needle to puncture the air bladder and get air out. You should then use antibiotics to prevent secondary infection.

Your not too late and thanks for the advice.

I'll be honest, I'm a little apprehensive to soak their food in epsom salt. Is there a recommended dosage? I've treated a tank with epsom salts before to help with constipation, but never dosed food.

I don't think I have the stones to needle a fish either.

Everybody ate well tonight and made it through the first round of prazi without a hitch.

Larger anthias still isn't perfect.

I've seen videos on anus/bladder deal via Hedgedrew courtesy Long Island aquarium but I don't know about that... I can force feed a goldfish but that's a little out of my league

I just dissolve some epsom in a cup of water and soak the food. I don't measure it.
But I think its more used for constipation. Its relatively safe and I use it in my cichlids and salterwater before with no problems

I think in your case, the needle would be more helpful though, since it seems more of an issue with the bladder based on your description.

But since, they are eating, i would just hold off and observe at this point.
hopefully, they will recover without intervention.

Time for an update, I've got some good news and some very bad news as well unfortunately.

Bad news, found the blueline on the floor sunday morning. I had done a WC late saturday night and forgot to shut the lid. :headwally:

I'm pretty bummed about this, the fish was eating well and there is no reason it shouldn't have been in my DT in the next month. I'm definintely going to try for another in the near future, i'm really upset with myself that I left that lid open.

Now for the better news. The three remaining fish in my QT are doing well. the bigger borb appears to have less of the head down swimming issue that was going on and all the fish eat LRS foods readily.

I moved the Altivelis, multifasciatus and Mr. Puff back into the DT. The altivelis had only been eating PE Mysis and it was my hope that by adding it to the DT it would start eating a better variety of foods (this happened with my octofasciatus).

I'm happy to say that it has indeed started eating the LRS foods and I expect it to continue to put on the weight. This is a very intersting fish, it's swimming pattern is much different than all of my other butterflies. It has the ability to remain almost motionless while hunting for food and will orient itself almost totally vertical. It's really interesting to watch, I'll try to get a video up later today or tonight.

And for the big news, I have a mystery butterfly fish in my other Quarantine Tank:bounce3: (this is why the altivelis, multi and mr. puff went back to the DT).

Everyone except Derek is free to guess, I'll start giving clues if nobody figures it out.

Negative, you were closer before.

First time I've seen one of these available to the u.s. Market. Not saying they haven't been before though .

Good guess, not it though.

I picked it up on my way back from boston last weekend. I came home via New York.

There is a deep water Hawaiian look alike that goes for about 6k.

Well done, pictures tomorrow.

Eating well, but has developed a little white bump on its forehead, not ich.

I think I may give it a day or two and treat with an antibiotic if it doesn't clear up.

Heres the new modestus, eating pretty well. As of last night, it did have a little spot on it's forehead. I'm going to watch it for now before deciding to treat.

Sorry for the terrible lighting, it seems like the only time I get to see my tank is at night lately. The giant blob in the beginning is obviously the puffer.

I'll try to take a better video this afternoon before the actinics come on.
