Butterflytown - 240 FOWLR

Thanks Peter.

I'm pretty excited about it, still bummed about my blue line though. I will say, with it's demise, the balance of power is now squarely even between the angels and butterflies, 8 to 8, including the quarantines. The end goal is to have more butterflies than angels, I'm still missing a Mitratus, Declivis, a pair of occellatus, and a couple aussies. I think I'll be packed full at that point (I might be getting close now).

I almost picked up a yellow head today at a little shop in Florence, decided against it though.

Awesome! I'm curious to see how this one gets along with your altivelis.

It'll be a little bit before the modestus hits the DT, although it's eating very well at the moment.

I don't expect any issues, the altivelis is kind of a loner, it doesn't hang around the other fish the way the rest of my butterflies do.

Two things worth mentionng.

The altivelis has much better coloration under my radions, there is a pastel blue freckling on its mid section that didn't show up under my cheap fluorescent lights.

The modestus is eating really well. It has what looks like irredescence on the back of its dorsal fin. That tank is getting a WC tonight, I'll try to put up a feeding video afterwards.

Chaos at dinner time.

Modestus, the two borbs and the lemon peel are all doing well and are currently in the middle of a cupramine treatment.

Love the tank, especially the golden! One of my favorite all time fish, but I've only had reef tanks for the last 15 years so it's a no go. I still miss my pair though. Very jealous.

Thanks, I'm really happy with my collection that I've got going. Your the second person that's mentioned a pair of semis, I always thought this was likely not possible.

A lot of times they end up fighting once they mature at 4-5". I broke down that fowlr when I moved, before they were that size. I've read it's easier in groups, but still a possibility of needing to pull a bully.

I just thought it was a weird copper band....

It's doing really well, and it's one of the butterflies I haven't seen offered recall before.

I keep watching for another larvatus, but I don't think they've listed once since I've lost mine.

They haven't (I check everyday) and my other guy I have been in contact with in Cali hasn't seen any either. I think they are few and far between as far as eating ones go. Hedgedrew picked up a eating Ornate from Aquarium Village in NJ a few days ago and threw it into his 1250g SPS tank so we will see how that goes

Is he documenting that in any of his threads? I'd like to follow along if he is.

The smaller regal and multibar have been going at it recently, kind of surprised I guess. I'm assuming the similarity in size and pattern is what's causing the issue.

Also, I think my talbots damsels are spawning. I have one big fat one that spends a lot of time in a cave.

Interesting! My pair sort of does the same thing... one stays more around a cave, one further out. However, I haven't been able to tell if they are spawning or fighting... typical married couple I suppose

I've not seen any spawning, but there is little aggression and one definitely hangs out in a cave. It's tough to see up in there too unfortunately, not that I could/would do anything with the fry if they are spawning.

I have three instead of a pair. I was actually considering adding another half dozen or so. Things are starting to fill up though and I still have a few big hitters left to add.

I think I'm getting ready to take a bit of a hiatus from livestock buying and purchase a couple pieces of equipment.

I want to maximize my skimmer efficiency and I'm debating between adding a vortech or installing an auto top off. I know I'll need two vortechs eventually, but I figure one now, is better than nothing. I know a lot of people love the Gyre, but aesthetically, I prefer the vortech and I love their programmability.

I can't decide which one to do first. Any body have anythoughts?
