Butterflytown - 240 FOWLR

Blueline finally started eating well, was starting to stress me out. I'm looking forward to watching this little one grow out.

Not really sure how long I should wait after quarantine to introduce her, the size difference makes me a little nervous, she's the same size as the talbots damsels.

I would make sure she is eating like a champ before putting her in the DT will all those pigs!

Amazing looking fish. Love that yellow one in the video. Hope the blueline starts eating well for ya!

Thanks, I actually noticed late yesterday that the Blueline had developed popeye in one of its eyes.

I did a large water change and dosed some antibiotics. Hopefully it's just from trauma and not an infection.

Matt, have you seen the little jewels that are on DD today? These are on page 1 along with several nice Angels, just wanted to make sure you saw it.

Oh I'm willing to bet my MP60 QD that he has seen them. I think his QT is pretty full with the blueline, semis, and Arabian

Probably so, I just thought of him when I looked at the first page LOL a bunch of nice Angels too. That pair of swallowtails and the triplet females are nice too. I'd need a 1000 gal tank to get all of the fish that I want. Would be cramped at 600 LOL I've got a 300 but don't like the dimensions, it's pretty much a tall cube. Plus I don't want the work that goes along with big tanks anymore

Oh I saw them all right, Derek is right on the money, absolutely no room in quarantine at the moment.

I'm getting ready to start treating the fish in quarantine in preparation for the move to the DT. I'm targeting the end of October to have the blueline, Arabian, both semilarvatus, my lemonpeel and the anulatta damsel moved.

We shall see, though that Muelleri is tempting.

I'd like to add one some day, but am a bit nervous, I think Peter said his had trouble competing for food.

They are a bit slower, but you can train them to be hand fed very easily. Once trained you can drop chunky pieces in one corner of the tank for him to nab first. They're nothing like the common CBB, much hardier, and they can rip apart & swallow large chunks of food.

The one thing I would do is QT it by itself so you can fully acclimate/train it to be an aggressive eater. You want him eating from the water column, not trying to compete with other fish eating out of a clam shell.

Good to know Ed, thanks for the tips. Your frags are doing well btw, especially considering they're in my care.

I've not really been happy with the way things are going with the Arabian lately, it still has the infection on the pelvic fin after two treatments of API Erithromyacin and three treatments of Seachem Kanamyacin. The Kanamyacin also had a negative effect on it's appetite, so I've decided to shake things up a bit.

I'm moving the Semilarvatus and the Anulatta damsel into the other tank, so it will just be my Tiny Blueline, (which is eating well, but still suffering from the popeye issue), and the Arabian. I'm hopeful this will relieve some feeding competition and get the Arabian back to eating well again.

My plan is frequent water changes, heavy feeding and Epsom Salt treatments daily (recommended by Derek). I may order some NFG powder, and start treating with that, but I think I'm going to give the fish a rest for a bit before I start that.

I'll try to get some pictures up later of my extremely crowded 55 gallon quarantine and also the Blueline and Arabian.

Forgot to mention that I decided to freshwater dip the blueline and the Arabian again this weekend because I have been suspicious of flukes with both of their current injuries / ailments. I didn't see any come off of either fish, but the infection on the Arabian looks better, even though appetite is definitely worse.

Also, I just added the Semilarvatus from my 50 QT to the 55 QT (which had the second semilarvatus in it) and it did not go well. I had to separate the two semilarvatus almost immediately, so it looks like my dream of a pair is not going to happen - should have listened to Peter, Ted, not sure how yours are doing, but I wish I knew your secret.

So now I've got three Semilarvatus and probably really only need one. I think I'm going to keep the smallest of the three and try to figure out what to do with the other two.

Here is a quick feeding video of my blueline...

That's great you'll have to do a video or some pics of that tank.

Pairing semis--

I don't know if I told you, but they like to pair up on their own. I bought 4 and they became two pairs that were together for life.

They used to come in more often than they do now so sometimes you could buy a pair that were together in a LFS.

They are also one of the BF species that have a group dynamic.....they may only hang out as lone pairs during breeding season in the wild and then later group back up.

Interesting information Ed.

Do you think I would be wise to add all three to my current 240 and see what happens, or is that a recipe for disaster?

My whole reason for getting the two new ones was to replace the current one I have because he nips at the puffer. I suppose I may just end up having to find a new home for the puffer, hate the thought of that though.

I might be wrong but perhaps the redness is part of its natural color?
