Butterflytown - 240 FOWLR

Hard lesson learned today, get a cover for your tank people.

My male blue throat trigger, who had been with me for longer than my oldest son (4+ years) jumped at some point during the night.

I was banking on the fact that none of the fish I had were known jumpers, but I guess anything can happen.

Sorry to hear. I had a niger for a while.... also found on the floor. Triggers IME are in fact jumpers.

+1 found my sargassum on my tile floor and was able to save it and my buddy had his bluethroat jump out in the middle of the night but he was able to save him lucky

I had a 5" scribbled jump after a water change & came back to find her on the floor 15 minutes later. She was barely hanging on, but lost her 3 hours later. Very sad as it ate out of my hand. Awesome personality. Sorry for your losses guys...

Your tank and fish look fantastic, Matt! Love the stock list. Achilles tang still being a jerk?

Thanks Itchy! Hopefully more fish to come this winter.

Can't say on the Achilles, I didn't watch the tank last night because I was at the Bengals Browns Slaughter. Not a fan of either team, BTW, took some customers....

It's typically at night that the aggression starts to show, which was strange to me as things normally settle down when the lights go down.

I can say, that I haven't fed algae sheets as much lately and I have noticed that Acanthurus can get testy when there isn't algae provided on a pretty continual basis.

We get cranky too when we get hungry I suppose.

Appreciate the comments regarding the blue throat, hard lesson learned I suppose.

You obviously never want to lose a fish, but at the same time, I had kind of been looking for a way to switch out that trigger as I've always wanted a crosshatch. I couldn't bring myself to trade him away though as its the fish I had kept for the longest period of time.

It's sad that a fish had to die, but I suppose if there is a silver lining, at least I'll have some space now to try for a crosshatch.

Consensus is that any fish other than maybe seahorses can jump. I know Greg/Renee lost a prized lionfish to carpet surfing.

Clear plastic screen material from BRS + hardware store screen window kits make great covers that don't block or diffuse light like eggcrate can.

A freezer full of fish crack; very nice! I have to say, I'm a little surprised that with Larry being a former LEO that he would turn to a life of crime and start manufacturing and distributing such an addictive substance...

Yeah that stuff is without question what my fish prefer. Things were getting pretty dire over the past couple weeks, I had been out of food for some time and was limping along on PE mysis (which I eventually ran out of too) and cherry stone clams.

I didn't buy directly from Larry and I don't own any personatus, so no t-shirt for me, which is fine. I'm happy to support such a great product and doubly happy that I have a decent local source front now.

I will note that this batch seems a bit more slimy and darker in color as well. My fish don't seem to notice though, I'm assuming it has to do with the natural variation in raw ingredients.

I'm excited to use this stuff on my new larvatus, maybe the sliminess will be an added enticement.

I was just messing with you about the shirt, I think his food is awesome and it's all my fish would ever eat if I fed it all the time.

Maybe if that larvatus does well on the new blend I'll convince him to sponsor a corallivore project...

Pretty sure there's another guy in this forum more qualified to be in charge of that though, name rhymes with teeter.

That would be awesome and what a breakthrough for the hobby that would be! If only I lived in San Diego and could pick Peters brain for his knowledge:D

I have to admit that I really am tempted to try one of these corallivores with LRS in hand :)

I've been thinking the same thing with the logic they're unfortunately doomed & I could give them a better life than the LFS can. If you can baby sit them, it could be a learning experience if anything.
