Butterflytown - 240 FOWLR

How long have you had the golden? That seems weird that it would stop eating suddenly and swimming slowly especially with your QT practices

Something's not quite right with my semilarvatus, it's not eating this morning and is swimming kind of slowly.

Nothing visible on the outside and it's one of my thicker butterflies. I'm hoping it's just constipated. Think I'll do a large water change and see if that helps things move along for him.

Hopefully a temporary situation, my regal pulled the same crap on me a few months ago, three days later it lost the blues and was back to normal; freaks you out that's for sure...

I hope all is well. I just don't have much good experience with "temporary" butterfly fish issues :(

Yeah, it kind of looks like there might be some swelling, but nothing major. I know he ate a lot two days ago.

I'm going to use some lower salinity water to see if that kind of helps things along when I do my water change. Worst case I can pull him and treat with Epsom salts I guess. Actually worst case would be death.

Well, the semi ate some breakfast, but not with the normal gusto. I guess eating something is progress. I might try to catch him later and put him in an Epsom salt bath if he doesn't keep progressing back to normal.

Me too, still not quite himself though. Not sure what exactly is wrong with him, I can't see anything noticeable, other than the fact that his appetite is a little lacking and he seems to be somewhat lethargic.

So for the Meyers and ornate they eat sps, any kind of sps or just acros? I have a endless supply of blue ridge monti and stylopora I can get my hands on but outside of those two the supply is limited

You know, I wonder about that. Ornates, lunulatus and some Meyers are pretty common in HI. Does acropora even grow there? I don't think these species with that sort of shovel shaped lower jaw are as specific about their polyps as something like larvatus. You'd think that would make them more likely to eat something in the aquarium though :(

I kept an 8 line and a chaetodon lunulatus in my reef tank when I was having trouble with my sps. If memory serves me correctly, the lunulatus really liked pocillopora, where as the eight line sampled everything (acropora, montipora, seriatopora, pocillopora). They really are ravenous eaters when they find something they like.

My eight line eats well, but just doesn't put on weight. I'm hopeful that an autofeeder will help with this problem. I don't think he's regressed any since I first received him though.

I have been thinking about the problem of getting these fish to eat in the aquarium a lot lately. I keep going back to the personatus project and thinking about how those tiny little fish eat prepared foods, just after post settlement. I keep wondering whether you could "re-wire" a fish if you collected it just after settlement and it never really got to eat coral polyps.

I reached out to Karen and Rufus in a PM, but have not heard back from them. If there was someone to collect a tiny post settlement butterfly, it would be Rufus.

So I took a couple decent videos of my tank this weekend with my little Sony Camcorder thing, but can't seem to figure out how to convert the file type to something Youtube accepts. Same story with the Larvatus eating.

Hopefully I can figure it out tonight...

Didn't SA do this with a corallivore?

What format is the video file?
