CADlights 39g Pro build thread

I was going to put in a Tunze 9005, I'll have to see what Euro-reef comes out with...may be a better option.

Ya, I wouldn't be in a hurry to place either of those in the sump due to their ratings...Personally I always prefer to get a skimmer rated higher than the actual tank volume, lol.

I have the TLF reactors I was going to daisy chain, one with phosphate remover and the other with activated carbon run by a rio powerhead, at least that's the plan...

Sounds good, but I thought the optimal flow rates for carbon and phosban were different enough to make that problematic. I ordered a TLF reactor earlier this morning. I was just going to run phosban most of the time, switching to carbon as I saw the need.

I've STILL not been able to get the tank, stand, and sump set up so I can at least get a better idea of plumbing options... especially space available. Real world stuff just keeps getting in the way. By next week. I'll have everything I need for the build except for the sand, live rock, and critters. Just need the time to work on it all!

Quick question for you guys running a media reactor... are you using a separate powerhead or did you tee it off the return?

CC

A micro Rio powerhead. Less fooling with plumbing, and the pump probably cost less than the plumbing parts would.

Just enough to keep the GFO grains moving but not enough to lift them out of the bed.

New update from Euro-reef in response to my request for clarification about the skimmer:
-----
"The CAD PRO 39 nano skimmer is not on the website yet.

We will take pics today and try to get it on the website in next couple of days.

It will be named NS3.0-CP.

I [Robbert] have just tested it with a 3.5 OD cup and larger ID foam riser tube and it cranks.

It makes so much foam that it justifies the larger cup.

I [Robbert] will post some pics this evening of the skimmer working, on my separate pic info website called “nano-skimmers.info”

Sounds promising...

Sump heater

Sump heater

Found a heater that fits in the sump.

Didn't have to look far - it was at OceanReeflections.

I have the older (9g) sump and the 150W heater fits horizontally in the center chamber with room to spare. I chose the downstream wall of the center chamber because that chamber has a constant water level and the downstream side minimizes thermal stress on the life in the fuge chamber.

The 200W might fit, but it would require a good twist on the power cable.

Those with the newer, larger sumps might find the 200W fits fine.

The control is built into the power plug, which is a little annoying. Don't need any more blocks on the power center... But having an unbreakable, fully submerged, horizontally mounted heater more than makes up for it.

(I need an in-sump heater because I turned my overflow into a deep sand bed.)

sean is super uncool and sometimes i want to eat him alive or bury him alive when he is fully conscious with some big strong blak guys.

Good info, Art. The timing was nice, because just an hour or two ago I finally got around to at least putting the sump in the stand and taking a close look at clearances and component sizes. I think I'm going to have to give up on my idea of that Hydor 200w in-line heater. It needs to be both out of water and vertical, and it's a full 12" long. I've got a spare Ebo-Jaeger 200w and Hydor 150w. I'll probably use one of them.

Since I've gone with the HOB fuge, I do have more in sump options than before. I'm thinking now I'll use the center section for media reactors.

Still waiting to see more details about that Euro-Reef skimmer.

Quick question for you guys already up and running with your 39g's. Did you place any kind of pad between stand and tank? If so, what did you use? I'm sorely tempted to skip it with this particular tank and stand.

CC

I didn't. Checked the top with a straight edge and it was good.

Not sure how the tank would look with a pad. The detail flows pretty smoothly from the tank bevel to the stand - might look a bit odd with a floating space in between.

California Crow...any word on the Euro-reef skimmers? I don't see them listed in the sponsors area any more.

Robbert emailed me a couple of days ago. I can't recall his exact words, but I believe that they're very close to being ready to go. He said he had a number of people waiting for the 38G version of the skimmer.
