calcium reactor starting point

So I have ran into where I cant keep a steady alk. I have my drip set just fast enough so it doesnt stop but my controller keeps turning off and on and I have that set to 6.5 and the bubble to 1 a sec. Any ideas?

what do you mean by you cant keep steady alk? how big and often are your swings?

Have you tried increasing your drip rate? I find I can keep a more consistent drip rate when I have more of a broken stream instead of a very slow drip.

I currently run my reactor about 6.7, but I also dont have any big sps colonies yet.

As for turning on and off, if your at 1 bps, slow down to 1.5bps. see if thats it from cycling on and off

I was at 177ppm on my hanna checker last week and it was down to 143ppm last night.

I dont have any big sps colonies all small frags and I do have a med size clam.

Also add the eff coming out of the reactor is reading 7.4 and inside the reactor 6.5 dont know if that changes anything?

I just picked up a Aquatic Systems Design calcium reactor, pinpoint controller and CO2 system. It is a bit oversized for my system (only 75 gal—mixed). Reactor is 36" high and about 9-10" across and uses a Pan World 40 pump to circulate. This thread is perfect info for my set up.

Will be following.

Thanks for sharing the info!

I ended up at 6.9-7.0 at a steady drip not a stream. Worked great but went through entire co2 tank after only 3 weeks. Damit

I Have the Following setup on my 180g mixed reef

Vertex RX6 DUO Calcium Reactor rated to 325g
Milwaukee CO2 Regulator W/Solenoid
SMS122 PH Controller By Milwaukee Instruments
