Can anyone keep "Electric Blue" Hermit Crabs alive?

Has anyone kept this species or similar for an extended period of time?? The main LFS guy I go to claims they are almost impossible to keep alive in an aquarium. Any input?

I've had the larger kind with the blue stripes on the legs for over two years now.

I have one now in my 20 long, I had another one but my mantis ate it... I don't think they are hard to keep, my nitrate is even a little high right now and I can't do a water change until my other mantis is done molting. They seem hardy to me, I acclimated the two I bought for about 30 minutes and still no problems.

I have three of them in my 24 nano for about 2mnths now, they've all molted once. I try and and supplement their meals once a week with little torn pieces of shrimp.

Hermits molting?

Yeah, all arthropods (insects, spiders, shrimps, crabs, etc etc) molt, or shed their skin, periodically, to grow.

I have one with sky blue stripes on the legs and orange anteneas that I have had for two years now.

If you think molting hermits are wierd, check out what they look like when they are out of their shell. Crazy! I now have the same problem SINNERMF's lfs has, my blue hermits are all gone on one side of my tank. My N. wennerae just ate the last one on his side.:D

When you see them outside the shell, you know why they go inside :)

If you ever see them mate, they exit the shell to move the babies inside, transfer them back and forth to each other, etc.
