I have big filter socks, they look like this-

but maybe a little bigger. they have aplastic ring at the top. anyways, do you guys throw these in your washing machines? i didn't want to bleach it, but maybe only use water, but i worried about washing your clothes after this. Thanks for any opinions.

Lots of ppl do this, most add bleach w/ no ill effects. I use a pinch of oxy clean. Works great.

I clean mine every week with bleach(unscented) and ask if oxy was fine and was told yes. I just do delicate cycle and that's it

Does the bleach make a difference? Do you run it again after the bleach with a cycle of just water to help get rid of any traces of bleach? I guess i was just worried about all the fish crap getting all over the next load of clothes

I use bleach followed by two rinse cycles. I wouldnt worry about the clothes, the bleach basically takes care of any fish ****.

thanks for all the help everyone. i'll give the bleach a try. I have regular scent clorox bleach, will that work. also, how much bleach do i add. thanks

Unscented bleach, about 1/2 or 3/4 cup works. Less will still usually unplug the pores and get em clean but using 1/2 a cup or 3/4 or so does a better job at getting more of the staining out.

Soak in water with a little bleach overnight then toss em' in the washer. I have 2 sets that I alternate weekly, works perfect.

I'd be a little careful with the dryer, however: let em dry naturally. Dryer sheets could be a no-no.

thanks again everyone. i planned on just hanging them to dry. can you usually get away with just changing these once a week, or do they need it more often? I

2X per week would be better. Depending on how much particulate matter is floating around, the micron rating and how old they are, they may not even go a week without overflowing. Not to mention that you dont want them to have the chance to become nitrate producers. I change mine atleast 2X per week, probably every 3 days on average. I have about 20 of them in rotation.
