Can someone help me Id this carpet.

I got this carpet two days ago and its seems to be doing great. Its about 5-6 inches round. The mouth is closed tight. I think and hope it found a spot it likes as it has not moved in over 30 hours. The base is a dark blue almost purple color. (sorry no pic) I will try and get one of it but the spot that its in makes it hard.

I am thinking gigantea carpet because of the less bubbly tentacles normally seen with a haddoni.

Yeah, it looks like a Gigantea to me (though I'm certainly no expert). Can you get a photo of its underside?

Also, is this in a nano?

Its really hard to get a picture of the foot or even a shot that would show the underside because of the way it is inside the tank along with the LR.

Yes its in a 29g tank. Once it gets to over 12inches I will be moving it to a larger tank. (still assembling some of the equipment) Plus right now I want to have the anemone in my office tank so that I can view it more

Is there something that your looking for that I can identify on the base that would help?

Look for purple dots on the base of the anemone, if there is it is a gigantea if there isn't it is a haddoni, or at least that is my understanding.

If it is a gigantea you need to give it very strong lighting (halides) sooner than later and they need alot of flow. Stability is also key. Do not wait to research it and implement ideal conditions even it means moving it to a larger tank. These anemones do not tolerate subpar conditions.

From pic 2 i would go with Haddonni, form pic 3 I would go with gigantaea. Sorry not much help, but I would err on Gigantaea.

Cpage, the tank it is in has been up for nearly 5 yrs. It is a very stable tank with strong lighting and flow for the size and depth (t5 w/individual reflectors and somewhere around 20x turnover for flow). I knew what i was getting into before I bought the carpet, I just wanted to properly ID it so I can care for it better.

Hi imnappe,
Can you describe what the underside of the disc looks like please?
If it has non-adhesive blue or maroon spots aka (verrucae) on the upper part of the column its a gigantea.
If it is smooth (no colored verrucae)on the underside of the disc its a haddoni.
If it has magenta or orange verrucae under its disc that go all the way down its foot it is a mertensii.

don't believe everything that you read .... gigantea indeed have adhesive verrucae.

as soon as I get a chance to look at the base I will let you know. All I remember is that the color of the base was a dark blue/purple. I dont think there was any spots.

Just wanted to update....

the base of the carpet is spotted with purple/blueish dots. I will post the picture later on.

Certainly has all the unique characteristics of a gigantea. Hopefully this works out for you, they're notoriously difficult to keep.

If you gigantea survives the initial few months, you will find it to be one of the hardiest creatures in your tank. The difficulty with gigantea isn't keeping it alive, but getting a healthy one, IMO.

Oh yeah .... get it some flow...water looks fairly stagnant in the picture...

Definitely a gigantea! Looks similar to mine, which I've had for almost a month now.

Strong, random, chaotic flow.
