Carpet Anemone placement ?'s

Hi all,
I just purchased my first carpet Anemone the other day. It's a nice lime green color. I have a question though about placement of him. I've seen pic's of them in the sand and even at the LFS in their display tank, they had a nice red one in the sand bed. However, the tank that mine came out of, all of the carpets were up in the rocks attached. My question is where is a good place for them? Do they need to be in the sand?

I currently have him attached to some L/R higher up in the tank. I have a 3' tall tank and am running 400W DE MH 20K coralvue lights on the end of the tank where he is. When the MH lights are off, he seems to open up and look good. Sometimes after i get home and the light on his end of the tank has recently gone off, he seems to be shriveled up like he may be gettng too much light. Should I move him down to the sand bed then? Or let him just find his own happy place? He has moved around on the rock some since I put him in.

I'm also picking up a RBTA tonight and will be placing him in the same tank. He will be several feet away from the carpet in the tank and am looking at placing him about half way down in the rocks. I know the tank he came out of, he was higher up in the rocks under 250 W SE MH lights so I don't think the 400's will bother him too much if I place him about half way down.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? TIA.

My carpet is under 400w MH 10K and has its foot buried deep into the sand bed. Has only moved a short distance in the sand bed. All the carpets that I have seen have thier foot buried in the sand.

I have a large green carpet, and its under 175w MH x 2 and it is at the bottom of my 55 in the sand. Been there for the past 3 months. and hasn't moved!

IME it's not a good idea to mix BTA's with Stichodactyla gigantea or S. haddoni .
Since there are several species of "carpet anemone" and their husbandry requirements differ, it really matters to know what type we're talking about.

OK. I can only tell you what I know.

The tank is a 400G tank. 7'L X 3'T X 2.5'W.

The "carpet" looks like any other carpet I've seen. It is a lime green. I do not know much about them but am learning. I got it from my LFS. The other is a RBTA I got from a fellow club member as his split again.

Right now they are placed in my tnak about 3' apart from each other. If you can give me any clues as to what to look for to determine which carpet it is, I'll be glad to look. I'll also try and get a pic of it and post it. Thanks for your help

OK, I looked up this type on Google and the discription I found beleives me to think it is a haddoni as the base stalk is white. Of the three types found on google, the haddoni is the only one they said that has a white stalk.

The best place on the 'net for carpet anemone ID and care is the anemone FAQ located at the top of this forum.
I would let your carpet anemone travel to wherever it wants to be. It does sound like it's a Haddon's anemone. Immature specimens often locate themselves on hard substrate while mature Haddon's anemones are usually anchored in sand.
It sounds like your haddoni is still acclimating.
