carpet anenome with emerald crab

i recently bought an emerald crab for my 90 gal. Had it for a couple of days then found it under my carpet anenome dead. I was wondering was it stug by the anenome and die?

I put my male into my hang-on skimmer (imprisoned for taking bites out of corals).
After two weeks I saw him laying on the bottom dead and removed him. I checked if it was just a mold but it didn't seem to be.
A couple of weeks later I checked the skimmer and guess what: there he is happily munching on the algae that grows there. So it was just a mold and he was hiding somewhere in one of the skimmer chambers.

Thank you everyone for responding I am keeping my hopes up that everyone is right. May be he is still hiding because he is still vulnerable.
