Carpet Question

I have had a green haddoni for a few months now, and overall he seems to be doing good. He eats quickly and whatever I give him. He is firmly attached and seems to like his spot.

I've noticed that for that last few weeks he seems to shrivel up at night, and expand again shortly after the lights go on. It seems to be entirely related to the lights. It is under a 250 watt 10k with t5 actinics.

I know excessive shrinking-bloating is not always good, but this seems entirely tied to the photo-period. Should I be worried?

I wouldn't think so, it just seems like minor reactions to the lights. I've seen some anemones close up at night. As long as it doesn't impinge on the anemone's physical health I think it's nothing to worry about.

I have a green one and a blue one in my 58, both of them getting smaller each night, about 33% smaller, and regain their full size about an hour after the lights come one ( 2*250 MH ). But, oddly enough the green one seems to shrink down more, and is more fickle --- seems to retract fully into the sandbed at the slightest disturbance --- I am starting to wonder if that is because it is not hosting the clowns.

Mine is hosting two fairly gentle occelaris.

Thanks for the responses thus far. Makes me feel a little better.

Mine is around 15 to 16 inches during the day and about 10 or smaller at night. I have 4 other host anemones and they all do it.

Mine does the same thing. He gets maybe 30% smaller at night. Sometimes when I try and feed him he will entirely retract / deflate until he's like 2-3" across. He can do it in like 2 seconds. It scares the heck out of the clowns.
