Reefkeepers in Iceland don't have the same resources as you have in the US. The market is tiny and shortage is frequent. I had to wait for several years to start in saltwater because there was only one store importing livestock perhaps twice a year.

The situation is better now and goods are easy to come by. Livestock is on the other hand is still in short supply and a LFS I visited today had Aiptasia, Bryopsis and Flatworms running loose in their display tanks.

There are 3 stores importing livestock and between them they may have livestock for a basic beginner. If you want something specific you'll need to order and wait weeks for it and throw alot of cash into the wind.

For imports you'll need SITES papers and to tackle burocracy.

A thought...

I have never really cycled a tank from this much dry rock (always used wet) and I was wondering if I could go through the first weeks on a lower salinity since I will probably need to do some big waterchanges and this much saltwater is expensive.

What do you think ? Would .017 - 0.20 be enough to get bacteria to florish ?

I took a look at the tank on site at CCP today and frankly it looks awesome in sight and even though this thread is quite detailed being there let's you see it in all it's glory.

This maybe my first post in this thread

I have been lurking this thread for a while and. Wow! What a tank, Great work.

I would like to say 1.020-1.022 IMO because i think any below 1.020 will cause the bacteria to die becuase I remember, my tank went to 1.018 and I saw only half the pods that were once in the tank.

My opinion... is that a lower salinity would be ok... like 1.020 - 1.022, but that is more out of speculation than experience. I am assuming that the bacteria/pods are going to need near sea water parameters in order to grow/florish (cycle).

I've plugged in the webcam and put it out on the interwebs.

Open webcam

Its now sitting on the skimmer in the sump/fish room. I just wanted to see how it performs and let you play around with it a little bit. It will later be moved into the center of the big tank for underwater exploration.

If you mess with the focus or Iris you can always go into the Ctrl Panel there and do auto settings again. I have yet to configure this and I will create a custom template later.

There is a queue system for the controls and each person gets one minute of time. Just click 'Request Control'

very cool. question I have been wondering about...if I am controlling it, are others watching the camera move as I move it? Or does it only allow one user to log on at a time?

I noticed that, only one user can control at a time, I think you get 60 seconds too control then the next person gets a turn and so on. If you look at the bottom of the page it says about the control queue.

man 'o man I have been following this build for some time now and all I have to say is "AWESOME!" wish I could get a kick butt job that lets me spend money for my dream tank! good job so far...

Checked it out. This is awesome :) I really appreciate the extra mile you went to make this camera accessible to everyone. Being very familiar with CCTV equipment, and its expense makes it a great privilege that deserves a big thank you for this opportunity. I can't even PT and Z my cameras at my own business. You my friend, are a legendary reefer :) Thanks again so much. Can't wait to see this tank on the front of the Reef Central home page!

On the salinity, I think you will be fine. The bacteria will be fine. People have mentioned pods a couple of times, but I don't think that you wil have to worry about the copepod population as there won't be any in there until you ad them via live rock or manually.

Very cool webcam can't wait for it to be hooked up to look at the tank its-self. Nice tank I've been reading this thread for ages and all I can say is amazing!
